The story of the new Tour Soft is almost entirely about the cover and a good bit of that is driven by the core.

If you are a golfer seeking maximum distance and speed with impressive scoring control, the Titleist Tour Speed may be the ball for you. On the other hand, if a soft feel and low spin rate, coupled with consistent and high flight, are what you desire, then the AVX golf balls could be your best bet. When it comes to golf balls, one name stands out among the rest—Titleist. Renowned for their superior quality, performance, and precision, Titleist golf balls are the top choice for golfers of all levels. At The Golf Shop Online, we offer a wide range of Titleist golf balls to cater to every golfer's needs and preferences. This comprehensive guide willexplore the different types of Titleist golf balls available, including the iconic Pro V1, Pro V1X, AVX, Tour Speed, Tour Soft, Velocity, TruFeel, and the eye-catching Yellow Balls. None of the balls tested fell below the USGA’s minimum size requirement. However, a single ball in the sample failed to meet our standard for roundness. Accordingly, it was flagged as bad. Inspection Centeredness and Concentricity At first glance, I thought that the Tour Speed reminded me a little of a lake ball due to the glazed, off-white colour, and the logo wasn't the same print that I was used to seeing on the Pro V1 range. Pro V1X Golf Balls from Titleist are designed to provide golfers with extraordinary distance and low long-game spin. With a higher trajectory and increased ball speed, the Pro V1X delivers unmatched performance off the tee and on long shots. The advanced technology behind the Pro V1X ensures exceptional control and a soft feel around the greens. If you're looking for a ball that combines long-distance capabilities with remarkable control, the Pro V1X is the perfect choice. The new Tour Speed has a reformulated core, midlayer and cover design for added distance and more shotmaking playability. My next post, will be more of a comparison with my Gamer, but wanted 18 holes where I focused SOLELY on this ball, without any biases coming through.

Compression

Right into it, as you will see in the data above, there was a lot to like about the Tour Speed for me and my swing during testing. What stood out most was what felt like the ease of launch while not sacrificing speed/distance for spin. Hitting 35, 37, and 36-yard average peak heights respectively is something that as a mid-ball hitter I enjoyed seeing. Bigger though, the spin numbers in the 9i were higher than I anticipated as a historically lower spin player, and they tapered off into the lower numbers I expected given the product description in the 5i indicating, for me at least, that it’s doing what they claim. As you’ve heard, the global supply chain remains in chaos. Depending on where you live and what your golf ball of choice is, you may or may not have felt the effects of an ionomer shortage. Overall: I think this is a solid ball overall and it will fit in nicely in the market space it’s designed for. Like I have stated several times, It performs very similarly to the Srixon Q-Star Tour. I would have no problem playing this ball in the future. Although, I don’t think it out performed the QST in any fashion, so, I will not be switching from my current gamer. Titleist has incorporated a cutting-edge 346 quadrilateral dipyramid dimple design in the Tour Speed golf ball. This innovative dimple pattern enhances the ball’s aerodynamics, optimizing lift and reducing drag for improved flight characteristics.

Across the market as a whole, it qualifies as a “firm feel” golf ball, though it’s on or even past the edge of being too soft for Tour play. Diameter and Weight On the other hand, the AVX provides excellent distance, but with a softer feel. This softer feel may reduce the perceived distance compared to the Tour Speed. However, it’s worth noting that AVX balls have a lower spin in the long game, which can also add to the overall distance achieved. According to the quote on the box this ball is built for golfers with swing speeds like mine but I'm afraid to say that I didn't see any increase in ball speed as Titleist were suggesting. In contrast, the AVX utilizes an innovative high-speed, low-compression core technology. This provides a soft feel while still maximizing distance. The AVX uses a three-piece thermoset urethane cover technology, giving the ball a softer feel and lower spin rate.

The most vital thing is to select a ball that matches your game – a ball that makes you feel like every stroke is bringing you closer to your personal best.

In contrast, the AVX provides a lower spin rate across the board, including in the short game. This can lead to less control around the green but can be more beneficial for players with a naturally high-spin game. Core consistency and color were consistent throughout the sample. We did observe a bit of regrind that was isolated to Box 2 but it’s nothing of any particular concern. CoverThere wee times i tried to draw into a pin placement, the BX turned over where i figged it would, the TS moved about half as much. The Tour Speed did feel a little softer than I expected with my first hit, particularly as I had been using Pro V1's previously so I was expecting something which had a much firmer feel. I think it does fit pretty well into that middle tier of golf ball for players who don't swing it particularly fast, although I wouldn't say that it performed any better than any of the other balls in this market and so that was a little underwhelming. The Tour Speed has allowed me to shape my shots effectively and consistently hold the green on approach shots, even when faced with challenging pin positions. When I got on the launch monitor, the majority of the drives that I hit with the Tour Speed were extremely similar to those I hit with the Pro V1. The spin of both balls is fairly low, though I’ll repeat that I’m a low spin player and your results may vary. On most shots, I was seeing equivalent speed, too.
