Products are only returnable if unopened and unregistered, unless the product in question is agreed to be faulty, in which case will be returned and replaced with another unit. Another interesting point to be made in favor of the modular thermal cameras is that they don’t use their own display which may be outdated or small. Instead, you get to enjoy the entire screen of your smartphone. The Conclusion This thermal-imaging camera also connects to your phone but provides more resolution (320 x 240 pixels) as well as higher sensitivity (-40˚F to 626˚F) than the Flir One – even the Pro version. And while that pushes up the price, it does make it a great choice for contractors, engineers, inspectors, and others looking for more detailed images. Below are some photos we took during the testing of various thermal imaging cameras. As you can see, the camera clearly displays multiple measurements (actual, min and max) along with clear colour visuals of hot and cold spots. For the best high-definition images look for units with a high IR resolution, a large temperature scale, and low thermal sensitivity.

The main complaints that people have about the module-type thermal cameras include the annoying constant calibration (which is something that happens with the Topdon TC001), the reliance of the USB port, which may lead to the module either slipping out or breaking, and there have been complaints about loss of connection, which I found a bit strange, but possible. The TC001 is not going to fall out of the phone due to both the properly-made connector and the low weight of the module, while the loss of connection is unlikely when it’s done via the USB port. Equipped with an ultra-high IR camera resolution of 256x192 pixels, the TC001 can produce a thermal image with unmatched clarity. The Topdon TC001 is a thermal imaging camera that’s perfect for those who want to get an instant view of the heat generated by not only electronic devices but also by anything in the surrounding environment. Whether you want to know if you should clean your laptop’s cooling fans or to see where your home needs insulation, the Topdon TC001 can do it. Moreover, the image quality and the fast refresh rate are excellent for real-time heat monitoring. After comparing its price and features to those of other similar thermal cameras on the market, I can warmly recommend the Topdon TC001 to everyone with a passion for DIY projects. Unboxing the Topdon TC001 thermal imaging camera For the most part, the best thermal-imaging cameras work like regular ones, except that the image sensor detects invisible IR light and it is translated to a visual “thermogram”. This is what you see through the creature’s perspective views in The Predator and Prey.TC001 is not compatible with all styles of phone cases or tablet cases, the included extension cable may need to be used. Temperature Monitoring: this allows you to continuously record the temperature of a certain spot or location and generate a chart with the changes recorded over time. Although there are several of us on the team, including me (Adam Juniper), we generally test thermal cameras by using them in day-to-day tasks like inspecting ventilation/insulation, heating equipment (radiators, boilers) and plumbing (hot water pipes and taps). We also test any special claims made by the manufacturer about individual products, as well as the overall experience. Apart from taking images, the TC001 also allows you to record videos. The advantage of TC001 in this regard is its frame rate of 25Hz. The videos are smooth without any stuttering. Hands-On Expertise & Collective Knowledge: Our team boasts extensive DIY experience and in-depth knowledge.

We recently got our hands on the TOPDON TC001 Thermal Camera. It is a compact unit that attaches to the USB-C Port of any Android Phone or Windows System. With a resolution of 256 × 192 pixels and a frame rate of 25Hz, you can expect high-quality images and videos. It also comes with a companion app/software for Android and Windows. Both versions have a 3-inch touchscreen and can store around 500 images onboard to transfer via Micro USB. The ability to type notes via a touch keyboard can be handy, too. If you can stretch to it, the FLIR C5 model adds more analysis features and Wi-Fi so you can get images to your phone and to your software.Professionals such as electricians and electronics repairmen, home inspectors, HVAC and car technicians The most versatile units come with three modes that record temperatures at a point, on a line and at the surface. Includes 10 different color palettes, sharpness and contrast adjustment, picture-in-picture and many other functions. Image enhancement technology makes the field of view clearer and more detailed, and enhances the target recognition function.

Industry Connections: We maintain close ties with manufacturers and brands, offering insights into trends and upcoming products. But now anyone can access thermal imaging, whether you want to spot heat sources in dark places – ideal for wildlife spotting – or identify where heat is being lost from your property. If you simply want to measure temperatures, you may prefer our guide to the best infrared thermometers, but for HVAC, electronics, and plumbing these are now essential. The companion app is very good and easy to use. You can measure the temperature of a point, along a line (highest and lowest), or in a plane (highest and lowest). The camera can measure up to 9 different readings at a time. The TC001 is especially suitable for objects where surface temperature is hardly distinguishable, such as circuit boards and other electronics.

Because this is a handheld IR camera, you get a 2.8” screen and a comfortable grip shape to hang on to with a trigger for taking pictures. And if you plan on using this camera in wet or dusty environments, don’t worry, it’s got IP54 protection. The TC001 infrared thermal camera can perform temperature detection within ±3.6ºF (2ºC) or 2% of max temperature. I did mention in the intro that at the moment, there is only a USB-C option, but I am fairly sure they will release a version for the iPhone as well – maybe they’re just waiting to see if Apple will actually accept defeat and move to the USB-C standard, like everyone else. Also, the case is covered by a blue matte finish and no other color is currently available. The Installation The user interface of the TC001 app is simple and easy to use. You get four large tiles corresponding to the four sections of the app:There are two main types of thermal imaging cameras. Handheld devices that look vaguely like guns come with a trigger and screen, whilst plug-in camera devices connect directly to a smartphone or tablet. IR Resolution The IR resolution is a more than reasonable 80 x 60px and you can detect temperatures between -20°C to 120°C with a thermal sensitivity of 150mK. The temperature measurement accuracy is ± 3°C or ± 5%. The image detail is also very good, and it uses the familiar colour code of white being the hottest and blue being the coldest.
