Description

The screen light works in a similar fashion too, with LEDs firing across a specially-designed layer that distributes the light around the surface of the display.

In his spare time he dabbles in theater, sketches comics, eats a lot of sushi and watches too many movies. If your Kobo ereader ever starts experiencing problems or stops working properly, there a few different reset and restart options that can usually fix common issues and sudden performance problems. The only thing I don't like with the way Kobo's ereaders display text is there is too much wasted space. It pays to check out the availability and pricing of some of the titles you're interested in before investing in either ecosystem. But if you don't mind the flashing and are more irritated by the ghosting artifacts, you can set it to refresh more frequently. It makes it so you can easily and comfortably read in any lighting conditions from direct sunlight to the dark of night.

Choosing the best ereader for your needs will largely depend on where you live which brands you have easy access to. While the Paperwhite’s light is always on (you can adjust the intensity but not turn it off) and helps boost contrast, by making the background look brighter; the Kobo Glo’s version is more of a traditional reading light, designed for when it’s too dark to read normally.

But the Glo's display more closely resembles paper, so if you're looking for something a bit more realistic and subdued, you might actually prefer it. Speaking of dingy, the screen has sort of a rough and dirty appearance when viewed at an angle, whereas the Kindle Paperwhite looks really clear.

You can fine-tune font boldness and sharpness exactly how you want it, along with margins and line-spacing, and you can even load in additional fonts of your choice to go along with the 10 already available. At the bottom of the screen there's a huge block for the page numbers, and some books always show the book title at the top of the screen. The software is available in 8 languages and 2 variants: English, French, Canadian French, Japanese, German, Dutch, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, and Brazilian Portuguese.

Then when you see square icons appear on the screen, use the paperclip to press the reset button—do this three times. Very useful if you come across a word or phrase in a book that the author declines to translate for you. Like the Paperwhite's, the Glo's screen is illuminated from the bottom rather than the top of the unit (as the Nook's is), projecting the array of tiny LED lights upward instead of downward. Text is a little sharper and clearer, especially smaller text, but the high resolution screen certainly doesn't give enough of a reason to be a deciding factor over another device. It's not personal against you -- it just makes it easier for davidfor (I think he's the one who sends them) to get the right images to the right people for the right devices. While the Kindle and the Nook get all the notoriety, Kobo's new Glo is an impressive e-reader that also features a self-illuminated screen. It’s not much talked about, but ereaders from Kindle and Kobo allow users to highlight passages of text and type notes by pressing, holding and dragging a finger across text.
