In 1901 Queen Victoria finally died, and after 60 years of waiting Edward was at last able to ascend to the throne. Despite his parents’ fears and a lifetime of questionable behaviour, during his short reign Edward proved a surprisingly popular and effective king, his gregariousness and social intelligence making him an excellent diplomat and ambassador for England. Bentley-Cranch, Dana (1992), Edward VII: Image of an Era 1841–1910, London: Her Majesty's Stationery Office, ISBN 978-0-11-290508-0 Today, Jezebel published an interview with Borman — as well as an exclusive sex chair clip, which I suggest you watch, so you can really get a feel for its craftsmanship — who described how Queen Victoria’s son would trot off to France to do “what the hell he likes” outside the eye of his infamously modest mother. “Dirty Bertie,” who eventually became King of England, conducted a truly staggering number of affairs, but his custom-made-and-measured chair resided in his preferred Parisian brothel. Borman explained:

Sex Chair - Curbed Anyway Here’s King Edward VII’s Sex Chair - Curbed

Such a funny book. Pupils loved this book because the pictures were so funny. Read as a class, Dirty Bertie is about a little boy who is just....dirty! I'm sure you will not be able to finish this book without laughing. It really shows small children what bad habits you should not have. Eldest son of Queen Victoria, he had to wait 60 long years before succeeding his mother. Small in stature (1.52m) but big in power, Victoria ruled the world’s greatest empire with authority… and austerity. The time was for morality, good manners, and decency. A deadly boredom for Albert Edward, especially as his mother does not make room for him. So why, without a real official function, languish in prudishness when the neighboring capital offers all the pleasures of life? The couple established Marlborough House as their London residence and Sandringham House in Norfolk as their country retreat. They entertained on a lavish scale. Their marriage met with disapproval in certain circles because most of Queen Victoria's relations were German, and Denmark was at loggerheads with Germany over the territories of Schleswig and Holstein. When Alexandra's father inherited the throne of Denmark in November 1863, the German Confederation took the opportunity to invade and annex Schleswig-Holstein. The Queen was of two minds as to whether it was a suitable match, given the political climate. [27] After the marriage, she expressed anxiety about their socialite lifestyle and attempted to dictate to them on various matters, including the names of their children. [28] London Bridge on the Night of the Marriage of the Prince and Princess of Wales, by William Holman Hunt (1864) Richard, [then] duke of Aquitaine, the son of the king of England, remained with Philip, the King of France, who so honored him for so long that they ate every day at the same table and from the same dish, and at night their beds did not separate them. And the king of France loved him as his own soul; and they loved each other so much that the king of England was absolutely astonished and the passionate love between them and marveled at it.” Großherzoglich Hessische Ordensliste (in German), Darmstadt: Staatsverlag, 1909, pp.3, 6, 28 – via hathitrust.orgMain article: Death and state funeral of Edward VII The body of the King in his deathbed, May 1910 Funeral procession of Edward VII, London, 1910 PDF) (in Japanese). 明治聖徳記念学会紀要. pp.144, 149. Keen to dam up the breach in sexual propriety, Victoria saw to it Bertie was swiftly married off to the beautiful Princess Alexandra of Denmark. It’s highly unlikely Alexandra ever had a turn in Bertie’s love chair, but she managed to bear him five children nonetheless. Davies, Rebecca (12 August 2013). In the case of Richard and Philip, the bed sharing and the other statements of love between them are generally thought to have been a political statement. The two had teamed up to overthrow Henry II, and were just announcing to the world that France and England were allies. About the notion that the two were gay, historian Dr. John Gillingham states,

Bertie, however, doesn't want to move and even the promise of a long garden, a neighbouring park and a big bedroom for Suzy doesn't change his mind. He's even madder when his parents say that he'll be changing schools and making new friends and begins to argue with Suzy about the big bedroom.
