They don't have the premium build or metal hinges of the Astro A50 Gen 3 Wireless 2017, but their plastic headband is more flexible and feels a lot more durable. The driving backbeat receives bass that reaches almost deep enough to feel, and the synth riffs come through well at the high-mids. If voice chat is something you intend to suffer through on Switch, you shouldn’t have much issue hearing what your friends have to say (though admittedly the quality of their mic has a lot to do with that too).

If you want something that works well on Nintendo Switch—and everywhere else, for that matter—and doesn’t require such an arcane connection method, the SteelSeries Arctis 1 Wireless sounds far better, and it’s only a little more expensive. We've retested 'Feedback' in the Controls test as we felt that the original 'subpar' result was too harsh. When gaming on both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, I experienced clear, crisp sound across a variety of games and scenarios. The dialogue and sound effects come through clearly, so confirmed hits and blocks aren't lost against the bass-filled mix. The freedom of going wireless is convenient but comes at the expense of keeping an eye on battery life.

Adjust your audio without leaving your seat with the inline volume control so you never miss a moment of the action. For years, it was one of the few companies focused on gaming headsets—and as a result, it got away with charging a premium. It’s little, and a bit stiff…but somehow it manages to balance the impressive girth of the headset just right on my head.

The analog cable is thick, rubberized, and detachable, so you can always replace it if it gets worn down by regular wear and tear. On the other hand, the Razer have a PC Y-splitter included, and their style might appeal to more people considering you can retract their microphone inside the headphones. The mids have just a touch of hollowness to them, but nowhere near the level I was honestly expecting. Selected lines only, determined by size, weight or whether delivered direct from one of our suppliers. I’ve reviewed more than a thousand different consumer electronics products including headphones, speakers, TVs, and every major game system and VR headset of the last decade. The original HyperX Cloud is still probably my number one choice thanks in no small part to the fact it’s way more comfortable.
