Description

Both of these factors have vastly expanded the options available for keeping PCs and chips cool. And that explosion of gear has been great for experienced system builders, while creating some confusion for those new to the scene. In this article, we've combined a brief tutorial with a list of some of the best CPU coolers now available. You'll want to read closely to ensure you get one that will work in your system.

Water Cooling Products

I did some research on them a while ago and basically found what every one of them actually was. All ID Cooling units and these are their models. To be honest, a few of them seemed to do decent performance wise, but if they're hit and miss on the quality control then it makes sense why they aren't recommended. RGB Sync with motherboard, 120mm Radiator, Copper Base High Pressure Pump,Premium Sleeved Tubing, TR4 Compatible With a dual-chamber pump, it makes sure that the hot water that's pushed toward the radiator doesn't get mixed with the cooler water pulled out of it.RGB LED, 240mm Radiator, Copper Base, Dual High Pressure Pump, High Static Pressure Fan, Wide Compatibility The cooler isn't sufficient for the processor, the 7900 can put out 140w at full load, that cooler is good for about 65w, that's why it's noisy because the cooler is overloaded. First impressions are that this is a pretty nice looking unit. Most noticeable is that the pump on this model has a much more conservative look than either of the previous AIO coolers we’ve seen from ID-COOLING. There’s no comet tail LED effect that the 240 sports, nor anything like the intricate design from the ICEKIMO. It should also be noted that the reason we omit acoustic/noise testing is due to accuracy within the readings. To provide truly accurate readings, you need a lab setting with the same ambient noise on a hour by hour, day by day and week by week basis. As ambient noise can increase at different times of the day, we believe that it’s pointless providing noise testing if we can’t measure consistent and accurate data due to our office being a busy setting. Test Setup Cooling high-power, high-end-desktop (HEDT) processors like Intel's Core X series or AMD's Ryzen Threadrippers with an air cooler is a formidable task. Typically, cooler manufacturers will increase the size of an air cooler to boost its performance and the overall amount of heat it can handle. But the finite amount of space and overhead clearance inside a PC case sets limits on how large an extreme air cooler can be. Given the larger die size and ample power consumption of today's HEDT processors, there simply isn't much room for HEDT air coolers to grow much bigger.

The one down side that I witnessed was that the pump is fairly noisy. This was perhaps exaggerated by running it on our open-air test bench, and it wouldn’t be as distracting when installed into a case, but it was still the loudest I have come across for quite a while. Design This air cooler is an unusual entry in our list—the only one not built by a familiar industry leader. The Alseye DR900 is the lowest-priced cooler in this group, but its features and value make it an enticing option if you're working on a budget build for which you want equal parts bling and cooling. The former flair comes in the form of three standard 90mm PWM fans with RGB LED lighting. I think I've partially solved my issue with custom curves, though. I will look at new fans in the near future (as this is a loud cooler at 50%+ usage). So you can get coolers (and case fans) that can brute force their way to the top of benchmark charts if measured by thermal performance alone, but this is often at the expense of noise. So a truly great cooler will not only cool the CPU, but do so at a lower noise level. And this is where the likes of Noctua coolers are king, but they do less well in the third metric, price. Immersive ARGB Lighting, 360mm Radiator; Extra Cooling Fan, Innovative pump control system, Enhanced Pump Design; Universal Compatibility RGB Sync with motherboard, 240mm Radiator, Copper Base High Pressure Pump,Premium Sleeved Tubing, TR4 Compatible It looks like a pair of very standard 120mm case fans. I'd expect any other good quality fan would be entirely compatible. Be Quiet Pure Wings 2 fans might be a good option, or the Noctua NF-P12 for a little more.

Inside a PC, a stereo amplifier, or a smartphone, one red line runs through them all: The circuits inside generate heat, and something's got to keep things cool. The hardware used to keep PC components from overheating has undergone a revolution over the last decade, with once-rare liquid coolers now widely used in high-performance desktops and some cooling hardware playing a key cosmetic role in show-off gaming rigs and custom builds. To load test, we run RealBench while selecting the heavy multitasking benchmark only. We run this a maximum of 3 times concurrently and the maximum temperature recorded is taken. This temperature is deducted from the current room temperature and our final delta temperature is provided. Results This covers the changes we would recommend. Had to substitute the CPU with the 3600 as 3600x isn't available on the config. At this price point, boasting the performance I have witnessed, the ID-Cooling Frostflow+ 280 gets a Play3r Gold Award…and it’s very well deserved. There is also an ASUS Aura Creator tool that you can use to create your own RGB profiles, but the only fucntion I want on there - CPU temperature related colour changes - isn't an option. The Default temp one is pretty basic and poor.... The more powerful your CPU is, the bigger and better cooler you'll need, no surprises there. If your desktop PC needs a lot of power and you travel with it, you're likely to feel safer with a radiator that's attached to your case via 8 or 12 screws than with a huge chunk of metal hanging off your motherboard.
