Description

Surgical knots have a wide variety of uses in surgery and knot tying is an essential skill for every surgeon to know and to be competent in. Now that you understand the functionality and purpose behind the Knot Tying Station, let’s get into how you can make your own. The video embedded below goes over the step-by-step instruction for creating your own and rather than put into words what the video does a great job explaining, I’ll refer you to this for starters. At summer camp, the supposed camp record is 13 seconds, but I finding that hard to believe. I recorded the fastest adult time of 30:36 and there was a scout there that beat my time by a second. Now that I’ve constructed one of these for myself, I’ve been able to lower my time, but certainly not down to 13 seconds.

Cub Scout knots awards are an important part of the Cub Scout program. These awards are a way for scouts to demonstrate their knowledge and expertise in tying various types of knots. Through earning these awards, scouts learn the importance of tying knots correctly, how to identify different knots, and how to use them in a variety of ways. Additionally, scouts learn how to work with their fellow scouts to tie the knots and how to help each other when tying knots. Earning these awards can give scouts a sense of accomplishment, pride, and self-confidence.Arrow of Light Adventure– Scouting Adventure 5b: Show the proper care of a rope by learning how to whip and fuse the ends of different kinds of rope. Using the L middle finger, whilst still holding the end between L thumb and ring finger, pass the short thread under and then over the long thread Boy Scout members have received a variety of awards from the Boy Scouts of America in recognition of their achievements. Among the most prestigious and rarest awards for both Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts is the William T. Hornaday Award and the Arrow of Light Award. In 1915, the William T. Hornaday Award was established to recognize significant contributions to and service to environmental conservation. This is the most difficult award that a Scout can earn in Boy Scouting, and it can be earned by any Scout rank. The Arrow of Light is the highest award given in Cub Scouting, and it can only be earned by Webelos who have completed the rank. Only Cub Scout badges with this name can be worn on the Boy Scout Uniform. Cub Scout members achieve the Arrow of Light as part of their growth as members, and it serves as an indicator of their progress toward the Boy Scout ranks. The Boy Scouts of America’s two awards are both exceptional ways to recognize the organization’s hard work and dedication. Cub Scout Knot Tying Requirements Wolf Adventure A completed knot should be firm, such that slipping of the knot is nearly impossible. However, excessive tension applied through a knot can cause damage to both the suture and the tissue, which can lead to poor wound healing and tissue necrosis. Each knot should be as small as possible, as to reduce any foreign body reactions.

Rope Cutting Gun (optional) – This will save you an immense amount of time on this and future projects, it both cuts and fuses synthetic rope simultaneously. I bought clothesline ropeand cut it into 6′ pieces–one for every kid. The Scouts can then whip or fuse the rope, which is an Arrow of Light requirement. In all this project shouldn’t take you anymore than about an hour and a half of total construction time. As mentioned, Home Depot and Lowes will gladly cut that 10 ft. piece of lumber for you at no charge and I’d highly recommend you take them up on that. Bear Adventure– Bear Necessities 5: Demonstrate how to tie two half hitches and explain what the hitch is used for. What’s the name of this local variation on the Boyce knot? Your Commissioners can also be aware of this. The William T. Hornaday Award has been renamed the Distinguished Conservation Award. In addition to the square knot for these two awards, anyone who received a Hornaday medal is permitted to wear it as well. The colors yellow, green, and red were used for Cub Scouts, Scouts, and Exploring, respectively. Celebrating Dedication: The William T. Hornaday And Arrow Of Light Awards

DIY Knot Tying Station

This Knot Tying Station is modeled after one I saw at Boy Scout Summer Camp this year when I attended with my son as an adult volunteer. I’ve been involved in his troop for a few years now as an Assistant Scoutmaster and it’s been very rewarding to help teach the next generation what I know. Pull the L hand upwards and the R hand downwards, allowing the knot to rest in position; adjust the tension of the knot as necessary Repeat the same manoeuvre as before with the short thread facing upwards and the long thread facing downwards
