Next up was the We R Memory Keepers heat reactive foil. It worked…okay. Overall it was good but a bit spotty in places. It didn’t transfer as well as the Cricut or Spellbinders foil, but would work in a pinch if you have used the Foil Quill in the past. Read more about the We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill. Heidi Swapp Minc Reactive Foil Select a lower force and speed. The default settings for Chipboard were Force 7, Speed 5. I got the best results with Force 2, Speed 2. Your settings will differ depending on the materials you’re using. The key difference is how the machines work. The Cricut tool works through pressure, whilst the Foil Quill works through heat. Because of this, the Cricut tool has a few key benefits: The WRMK foil quill is my new favorite for filling in words and shapes! (Sorry Cricut Foil Transfer Tool.)

We are going to test the following brands of foil just to see what will happen when the Cricut foil tool is applied. Spellbinders Glimmer Hot Foil is a heat-reactive foil. I didn’t expect this heat reactive foil to work with the Cricut Foil Tip, but it did—beautifully. I used the fine tip for all of these, but the Spellbinders foil went on a bit bolder and I’m not exactly sure why. Unsurprisingly, the Cricut foil worked perfectly with the Cricut Foil Tip. It was designed to work with the pressure-sensitive tip and I got great results. I love this foil—it’s really shimmery and pretty. Spellbinders Glimmer Hot FoilSelect everything else and set it to emboss. This feature will come up once you’ve adjusted these settings.

As well as three tips, the set also includes 12 foil transfer sheets in a variety of colours – ready to use. Simply follow the prompts in Design Space to start giving every idea a foil finish! When your Cricut Maker or Explore Air 2 machine is done, simply peel to reveal your finished project. The Cricut Foil Transfer Tool works as a companion to your cutting blade and you’ll need both tools to create intricate designs. The housing units on these tools are not interchangeable despite how similar they look to each other. So, be sure to keep both on hand! If you have an additional foil you’d like me to test, let me know in the comments! What Foil Works with the Cricut Foil Tip? However, the cutting blade and foil tool both utilize the B clamp on your Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore machines. Insert the Cricut Foil Transfer Tool into clamp B on your cutting machine. Pressure-sensitive – this means that when pressure is applied the foil will transfer to the material. This is what the Cricut foil is and what the tool is designed to work with. By the way, I found no matter what settings I used with the fine tip Foil Quill it was still too much force and the foil ripped so I would only recommend the standard and bold FQ tips for use in the CAMEO 4.

The Cricut app on my iPad, however, works just fine. The only thing is, I can’t use the foil transfer tool with the app, again super frustrating. Hi Everyone! This week is a continuation of last week’s post. I’m testing my Happy Birthday filled SVG file and some filled shapes with my We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill. All three tips fit into the same housing, and they’re really easy to swap! Simply press the plunger button on the top of the housing – and the tip will fall out. You can then put another one in, and it will snap in place with a magnet within the housing. Key things to watch out for Minc foil is adhesive reactive, which means that it needs something to bond it to the base material. Most often, this is toner—this is why many Minc projects require you to print out your project using a laser printer or copy machine (an ink-jet printer will not work). When the Minc foil is run through the Minc machine or other laminator, the toner basically melts and the foil adheres to the melted toner. iCraft Deco Foil

The tape that is included with the sheets can be reused a few times, so don’t throw it away immediately. It’s handy to keep it, just incase you need some extra at any point. Once the design is finished, eject the mat. Carefully peel the foil away to reveal the transferred design. The biggest difference between this foil and the Cricut Foil is that it only comes in 6″ rolls, vs the larger 12″ x 12″ sheets that Cricut sells. Depending on the size of the designs you want to foil, it may be easier to use the larger Cricut foil sheets. We R Memory Keepers Foil Quill Heat Reactive Foil Turn off cut lines for the rectangle that represents the foil by selecting it and choosing No Cut/No Emboss under Tool 1 in the Send Panel.Create stunningly beautiful invitations, cards or posters with Foil Transfer Paper from Silhouette. You will first want to know how big the print needs to be to fit inside your matting. Our’s measured to 9.5 x 7.5 inches. We made a rectangle as a guide so that we would know what boundary to stay within. Adhesive – this type of foil works when applied to some sort of adhesive. This could be a glue or even melting printer toner to act as an adhesive. Load the base and make sure the ratchet blade is in the left tool holder and the fine embossing tool is in the right tool holder.
