Besides her magical powers, Galadriel was also very wise and intelligent: she was one of the very few who were not fooled by Sauron in the Second Age, and therefore suggested to Celebrimbor to hide the Three Rings. She also refrained from using the powers of Nenya while the One Ring was in Sauron's possession, and only did so after the One Ring was lost (for it was only then that it was safe enough for her to do so). When Frodo offered her the One Ring, Galadriel managed to reject the undeniable temptation, for she was wise enough to know that, though she might start off with good intentions with the One Ring in her possession, she would only become a tyrant as terrible as Sauron in the end. This could be viewed as a testament to her excellent understanding of the seductive nature of power, as well as her awareness of her own personal limitations.

Then swiftly she returned to her original form, seemingly smaller and frailer than before, declaring, " I pass the test," refusing the Ring and accepting the fate of diminishing (as the time of the Dominion of Men had come), and returning at last to Valinor. As the Fellowship departed, she gave each member a gift and an Elven cloak, and outfitted the party with boats and supplies. Gimli, in particular, was touched by Galadriel's nobility and beauty, and asked for one strand of her golden hair as an heirloom of his house; she generously gave him three (having refused the same request from Fëanor), which he later set in an impregnable crystal. The History of Middle-earth, Vol. V: The Lost Road and Other Writings, Part Three: " The Etymologies" But regardless of how much we get out of it, a good deed remains a good deed even when unseen, and unsung heroes are still heroes. Ultimately, what matters most is that you know about the good you’ve done and take pride in it. An allusion to knowledge being a double-edged sword, Galadriel warns the two about the dangers of acquiring knowledge but tells them that even with the risks, it is still something worth seeking. Better to be open and aware than blind to the world. But staying inside your home and comfort zones is as dangerous as going outside. You don’t gain knowledge and experience that will help you grow and reach your full potential. If you don’t leave your comfort zone, you will never live fully. Sometimes in life, we drift without reason, neither searching nor settling. And the treasures we find in the journey are not necessarily material wealth; there are times when you just need to be. It’s okay to not have a clear direction of what to do next or which direction you should take.

The wide world is all about you: you can fence yourselves in, but you cannot forever fence it out.” Though we may think we’re not good enough, and even when we feel afraid, we still hold the potential to do as much as any other person. Anyone can do anything when they put their minds to it. Humphrey Carpenter in his biography of Tolkien remarked that Eärendil "was in fact the beginning of Tolkien's own mythology". In Tolkien and the Great War, John Garth gives an extensive interpretation of Tolkien's 1914 poem, inferring many parallels in Eärendil and his flight. [12] Portrayal in adaptations [ ]In place of a Dark Lord you will have a queen. Not dark but beautiful and terrible as the dawn! Treacherous as the seas. Stronger than the foundations of the earth! All shall love me and despair." Just prior to the War of the Ring, Galadriel hosted the Fellowship of the Ring after their escape from the mines of Moria. While studying at Oxford, after discovering Éarendel in the lines from Crist, Tolkien developed a constructed language that later became Quenya. As of around 1915, he believed that this language needed an internal history, and was spoken by Elves whom his invented character Eärendil meets in his journeys. The next step in his creation of the underlying mythology was the Lay of Eärendil, a work composed of several poems describing the mariner Eärendil and his voyages, and how his ship is turned into a star. The mysterious land of Valinor and its Two Trees of gold and silver were first described in this cycle. She is one of only four characters to appear in all six films of both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies, the other three being Gandalf, the Witch-King, and Sauron.
