The House Across the Street, review: a pleasingly off-kilter

Claudia finds herself obsessed with the investigation, even organizing a vigil, raising money for the girl’s parents, Owen and Sabine, and helping Owen get home when she finds him drunk and in despair. While some of the dialogue veered a little too close to exposition to be convincing – “the breast reconstruction has been a success after your double mastectomy”, said a doctor, as though Claudia might have forgotten her recent surgery –, the drama’s well-paced intrigue made its script’s occasional clangers feel forgivable. Collecting money for Emily’s family gave Claudia the perfect excuse to strike up a rapport with teacher George (Craig Parkinson), a colleague she’d been admiring from afar. So whilst Claudia (not to mention us viewers) doesn’t yet know where Emily Winter is, The House Across The Street will surely provide us with plenty more creepy revelations and murky moments before the truth is unveiled. Some limited series in the past have gone on to have more episodes, such as Big Little Lies, Euphoria and The Flight Attendant on other channels and streaming platforms.Craig says: " I find it very easy to shake everything off once we’ve stopped filming for the day, it's the build-up that’s tricky for me. He recently starred as DS Norman Potting in ITV’s Grace, and has had recent guest appearances in Hullraisers, Vera, and Sandylands. Her specialist areas including literature, the British Royal Family and knowing all there is to know about the latest TV shows on the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and every streaming service out there. Bitter experience teaches us that thrillers which promise good things in the opening episode often fall to pieces at the midpoint then descend into absolute bunk by the end.

Written by White House Farm creator Giula Sandler, the tense four-part series stars Shirley Henderson, a lonely single mother and school nurse who finds herself at the centre of a missing child case. The series follows a single mother named Claudia who lacks a close relationship with her son and is desperate for some connection. Watkins added: “Fragile, softly spoken and hauntedly distracted, Henderson’s portrayal of Claudia was masterful. He’s next set to star as DCI Burton in the upcoming series Mrs Sindu Investigates, starring Meera Syal. Few people can do “woman with an albatross on her shoulders” through pure body language like Shirley Henderson can.

The House Across the Street, Channel 5, review: Shirley The House Across the Street, Channel 5, review: Shirley

I was reminded a little bit of Deadwater Fell, it's better than some of the recent dramas that have been on, I'd put a lot of it down to Shirley Henderson, her acting was tremendous, I am a huge fan of hers. Joanne’s emotional investment in the disappearance rivalled Claudia’s, and the revelation of her creepy doll collection in a garden shed (“this is my happy place”) only made her more unsettling. A third said: "The one I suspect you're on about was in Doctor Who and her voice was a bit grating in that, too. From its title alone Channel 5’s The House Across The Street promises some serious suspense and as anyone who’s binge-watched their way through The Watcher will know, there’s nothing like a little suspicion to throw a neighborhood into chaos. Irish actor Ian-Lloyd Anderson, who plays Owen, said: “This job was lovely because we filmed near Dublin, which meant I could go home every night.
