I just wanted the miracle of fitting in: I wanted, much like Yuriko in I Want to Be a Wall, to feel like I was doing the thing that would make everyone happy. However, one of the most interesting conversations takes place later on between Gakurouta and Momo over lunch (once they’ve been formally introduced and various misunderstandings on Gakurouta’s part have been dispelled). Then we see more of Yuriko’s school life, her long friendship with Ume-chan, their joint passion for BL – and how the two of them grew away from each other at university when Ume became much more interested in her appearance, partying and meeting boys. I wrote, in June, in that Okazu article, primarily about my body and its relationship to Yuri, to how that had initially informed femininity and then, informed trans masculinity.

She now knows that there’s an explanation for how she feels, and as we see her relationship develop with Gakutouta, she suddenly has someone who is supportive of her identity.Recently, she has brought such discussions to the public by organizing and moderating panels at comic cons centered on anthropology/culture related topics.

It would be rather ironic if people who constantly get mislabeled accidentally did the same to him instead. The moment I think about doing anything romantic, me the person, with anyone, I just know I'd skip out real quick. We were able to sit down with Aiba for a gregarious and sadly brief conversation to discuss writing relationship dynamics, greater awareness of LGBTQ+ issues, and her latest work.Gee, it's almost as though being aspec is inherently queer and our struggles line up with other queer identities due to not fitting into established social narratives and that exclusionist movement that persisted for a couple years when I was a teen was full of shit and needed to shut up and actually listen to us about our experiences and no I'm not still haunted by that, it's not like I ran an aspec blog during the height of that bullshit and had to field terrible shit when I was sixteen, nope, not at all.

Whenever Circus does a big operation to catch some bad guys, they put on a show for the townspeople to apologize. The introduction of a new character – Yuriko’s male friend, Momo – also adds to the different viewpoints and perspectives on the main couple’s relationship.

Granted, it is absolutely possible for someone to be aromantic AND asexual (and it sounds like that's how Yuriko identifies), but the story treats asexuality as both and it isn't. So she sticks to BL, where there's no chance of being reminded of what everyone regards as her "deficiencies" because, well. The first is when Gakurouta (Gaku for short, the husband) appears with the husband-help book 800 Steps to be the Perfect Husband. However, with a disturbing development right at the end of this volume, we’re left on a cliffhanger, wondering if everything’s going to be all right. And then I made a list of names, and tried only one out, and suddenly realized that staying Meru until my last breath would be intensely uncomfortable. And I feel even a chapter would have helped at this stage; hitting the ground running makes for a dramatic opening but it’s telling the story the wrong way round. They learn to cohabitate and trust one another as it is slowly revealed how they came to be in this circumstance.
