Description

Reptoboost is a powdered supplement that is a mixture of probiotic bacteria, A C E vitamins, electrolytes & glucose for energy. Once opened it should be used within 3 months, after which time the probiotic component will be less effective. It is useful for: Cause 1: Uneaten food in the stomach rotting and poisoning the tortoise whilst asleep → Solution: Allow tortoise to empty its stomach by stopping feeding two weeks prior to hibernation, whilst keeping the temperature the same so allowing the tortoises metabolism to digest and empty the stomach. Recommended and used by veterinary surgeons, Reptoboost is important for reptiles receiving veterinary treatment. During these times the normal gut flora may be unbalanced and a breakout of harmful bacteria may occur, causing other health problems. Rinse the reptoboost solution off with warm water before drying. (This is necessary to prevent the build up of biofilm on the surface of the shell/skin) Recommended and used by veterinary surgeons, Reptoboost is important for reptiles receiving veterinary treatment. During these times the normal gut flora may be unbalanced, and a breakout of harmful bacteria may occur, causing other health problems.

Reptoboost is a carefully blended mixture of glucose and maltodextrins for energy, electrolytes, vitamins and probiotics Technological Additives: None stated; Sensory Additives: None stated; Nutritional Additives: Gut flora stabiliser: Bacillus Subtilis C-3102 DSM 15544 4b1820 CFU 2.8x107. The law changed in 2005 to require veterinarians to allow their clients to buy veterinary medicines from the supplier of their choice. Your vet will be familiar with this procedure, and will provide a signed prescription on request. To save your vet's time, you can print off a blank prescription which you can take to your vet to be completed. You then need to send this to us for review, before we can despatch any “prescription only” medicines (categorised as POM-V). Will my vet charge me for providing a prescription?

Reptoboost contains probiotic organisms which live for a short time in the gut, this helps to stabilise the pH levels so that the reptile to re-establish the correct balance. The electrolytes present aid in maintaining adequate levels in reptiles with diarrhoea (during periods of diarrhoea they are losing electrolytes at a fast pace). The maltodextrins in the blend provide sustained energy rather than just a short burst.

Legally a vet is obliged, on request, to provide a written prescription for a medicine they would otherwise sell to you for your pet. Can I return prescription medicines if my animal no longer needs them? it is safe for reptiles to drink and aids correct functioning of the digestive system by helping the growth of good gut bacteria. It also helps to balance pH which allows the development of lactobacillus (gut bacteria) as well as essential electrolytes in your reptile's bodily fluids which can otherwise be lost of dehydration or stress.Developed by the clever reptile carers at Vetark, Reptoboost is a nutritional boost for lots of different reptiles, including lizards, snakes and tortoises, giving them a vital dose of hydration and energy when they need it the most. Put the tortoise in a see-through plastic box with high sides. I would recommend either kitchen roll or newspaper inside on the base as this is easy to determine if the tortoise has urinated whilst asleep because the paper will dry wrinkled. You do not need to include any hay or bedding but some people add some shredded paper. WEIGH THE TORTOISE IN THE BOX. Note this weight down.

Once a tortoise is old enough, healthy and of the correct weight, it should be allowed to hibernate. Some species that originate from areas that are hot all year round such as the desert or Jungle tortoises such as Sulcatas, Indian Stars or the Red & Yellow Foot tortoises should not hibernate as this would likely result in death or illness, but for the common species such as Horsfields, Spur-thighed and Hermanns, having a period of hibernation is crucial for a long and healthy life. Preventing them from doing so if they meet the criteria will shorten their lifespan significantly. Simple to use, Vetark Reptoboost is added to your reptile's drinking water to help them rehydrate and provide them with a supplementary source of energy to get them through hard times should they arise. It helps when settling new pets, helping them feel less lethargic and more confident. For others products(categorised as NFA-VPS) we will require details of your pets being treated, which our Suitably Qualified Person can prescribe if they are not eating much would only dust with nutrobal until they are feeding regularly to try and increase their level of vitamins including d3 so they have a chance of absorbing some calcium then rotate between calcium and nutrobal every feed. One thing to note is that winters in the UK are often coldest December – February and so I would advise starting the 3 weeks preparation at the middle to end of December, that way the tortoise will be asleep during January and February which are usually the coldest months of the year.

These tortoises will pretty much do their own preparation, living outside all year, they will have adjusted to the daylight cycles and will naturally stop feeding on their own. It is important to provide them with a clean source of water to allow them to flush out their bladder and take on fresh water ready to sleep. Keep an eye on them if you can to prevent the 5 main causes of death listed above. Preparation Has the tortoise been wormed? If been in the garden a worming treatment can be obtained from a reptile specialist vet and its easy to use. Is the tortoise healthy? If it has had any issues such as an illness wounds, a period of non-feeding due to too cool a temperature etc it would be best to keep it warm and put off hibernating until the next year. Swap the heat source for a lower wattage. If you were using a 100w heat source, swap to a 40w and turn off any warmth at night. Still do not feed and continue with the daily warm baths.
