Rumours that Red Bull Hardline will become a series have been roaming the internet corridors a while, so it's perhaps no surprise to have the official news: Hardline will have... Perhaps the main USP of the Burgtec Enduro MK3 is that it is available in a 42.5mm length. It may sound daft and all rather Princess-and-the-pea, but a couple of mm here and there with stems can certainly be felt by experienced riders. So if you’ve tried 40mm and 45mm stems and not quite gelled with them, here’s the (42.5mm length) stem for you!

I currently have a 60mm stem and quite fancy treating myself to a little bling in the flavor of a nice shiny CNC’d stem. Truth be told, even if it is your thang, it may just simply not suit your bike. The swoopy, candy colour, gloss finish of certain carbon frames doesn’t lend itself to being paired with a chunk of lasered alloy. It’s expensive and needs careful setup but the Apex 35 is top-quality, will easily see years of service, and is a great stem for trail, enduro, and even XC use. Love the look of the Easton Haven stem, but only comes in 55mm or 70mm – would i notice much difference going up to the 70mm? Not really fancying going any shorter to 55mm…

A word of caution: if you’re tinkering with any of the bolts of your stem, make sure they are only tightened to the manufacturer’s recommended torque setting. That’s usually 5Nm or 6Nm but should be printed on the stem, next to the steerer tube and/or faceplate bolts. The way I see it is I’m used to XC so a shorter stem will still give a trail feel even if it’s longer than what’s normal. Oh gotcha! Hmm, I don't think anyone but you (and maybe a trained bike fitter) could say what's "right" or "too long." Certainly nothing wrong with a 60-70mm stem if that's what feels good to your particular body on your particular bike.
