However liberating this cultural tug and war game may feel, few of the people initiated are actually learning something meaningful and in the worst cases, exhibit prejudices that further compartmentalize the Pan-Afrikan experience into a culturally naive and nostalgic perspective. They can provide a place for a much-needed swim in the dog days of summer, a bounty for fishing enthusiasts, or even a cold drink of water, depending on the river's pollution levels. The ancient Egyptians faced many invasions from the Assyrian, Persian, and Macedonian Empires all claiming control over Egypt.

In 1902, the Aswan Dam was built to stop the flooding of the river; the dam was enhanced and improved throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

Contrary to the Blue Nile, the White Nile River is calm and for many months can be swamp-like shallow conditions.

Browder rarely falters, and instead of arriving at baseless assumptions, he always allows the critical mind to decide for itself, which is proof of his merit as an exemplar and true student of both his field and his personal beliefs. Often flowing over its banks several feet, the Nile deposited layers of silt and dirt rich in nutrients and natural fertilizers on the surrounding land. The ancient Nile River allowed for two impressive civilizations, Egyptian and Nubian, to emerge from the smaller settlements.

But, it is a joy as a person of color when he challenges the faulty logic of racism by demonstrating Nile valley society's influence throughout the US, especially; his section on contemporary Egyptian symbolism will interest most, as well as his later examination of Eurocentrism and white supremacy.

How many, for instance, can speak of the Pharaohs, yet can't speak of Akan Linguists, Babalawos, or - from a Black Latin American perspective- Yanga, for that matter? The river provided a predictable schedule for the flooding season from June to September, following the monsoons in the highlands. C., although the first established ancient civilization did not occur in Nubia until the Kingdom of Kerma reigned over Nubia from 2500 B. I strongly recommend this piece on Kemet as the launching pad for a journey through Afrika's many civilizations and their contributions to the world. The average depth of the Nile is 8-11 meters, but in the lake behind the Aswan Dam, the river is as deep as 180 meters.

With respect to the deviations Exploding the Myths takes in its thesis, this behavior often relegates us to parroting out responses that coincide with what white supremacy has established as acceptable. Anthony Browder took what Jackson, Clarke, and Jochannan wrote about in their books and translated it so that the average person could read and understand it. Humankind harnessing the bounty of this fertile area encouraged the earliest areas of sustained settlement and civilization. The region was known as Nubia, present-day southern Egypt, and northern Sudan, spanning from the Nile River Valley to the Red Sea. The writings of these men contain a lot of scholarship, which to many people may be very difficult to read and understand.

The evidence - or lack of- is there, and it is in this avenue where I find Browder is at his best in presenting his thesis. Although the Nile's water flow is now controlled by the Aswan Dam, constructed first in 1902 and added to in the 1960s and 1970s, the river's seasonal flooding was extremely important to ancient Egyptian civilization. After the monsoon rains had fallen near the Nile's headwaters, the river flooded from June through September. I'm not speaking of the obviously Afrikan extension of the Christian religion when I offer this example. The Greeks named the large fanned area delta because the shape of the area resembles the Greek letter delta upside-down. Coalescing out of the smaller cultures residing alongside the river, historians consider the Egyptian period to have begun after the union of Upper and Lower Egypt, the Southern and Northern Nile River Valley, respectively, and the beginning of the Old Kingdom, sometime between 3100 and 3050 B. The Nile River Valley includes not just the river, but the surrounding banks and low lands that benefit from the river flooding.
