The town is close to the course of a 268-mile national trail which passes by on its way from Middleton-In-Teesdale towards Dufton. Besides the horses, there are fortune tellers, palm readers, buskers and music stalls, clothing stalls, tools and hardware, china, stainless steel, and horse-related merchandise including harness and carriages. You can enjoy traditional a ‘pub grub’ lunch or dinner including Cumberland Sausage alongside a pint of hand pulled ale. While the UK remained in the European Union, Appleby was in the North West England European Parliament constituency.In 1881 the then owner, Sir Henry James Tufton, was created Baron Hothfield; his descendants remained in possession until 1961 when castle and estates were sold by auction. The route begins at Acorn Bank car park and follows a woodland footpath, which is a haven for wildlife.Following opening of auction mart next to Appleby West railway station in 1880, New Fair became largely a horse fair, increasingly dominated by travellers until by late 20th century it was recognised as largest gypsy/traveller gathering in Britain. The event is volunteer ran by the local community who often host fundraising events on the run up to Halloween and Bonfire Night. They act in a personal capacity as Protector, Enforcer and Director (of Private Trust Companies) for a number of discretionary trusts and are frequently instructed by blue-chip trust institutions.

She devoted the rest of her life to restoring her family’s five castles – including the one at Appleby. Every Saturday, Appleby hosts a small, outdoor farmers market in Boroughgate filled with local traders showcasing their weekly produce. The route starts in Dufton, less than 10 minutes away from Appleby and follows a short but steep footpath winding up and down the grassy slopes. With close ties to local governments, they are often consulted on, and help to share, new laws brought into force across the jurisdictions in which they operate. Most of Lakeland’s waterfalls are best-seen following rainfall, with the extra water making them larger and more impressive.The Local Authority (Eden District Council, which convenes the Multi-Agency Strategic Co-Ordinating Group to manage the official response to the fair) is required to deal with these matters, and their official sources provide a context for these controversial issues.
