Description

With a new imaging engine developed within the L 2 Technology partnership formed by LEICA and LUMIX, and a new 24-megapixel sensor, the LUMIX S5II and S5IIX are the first LUMIX cameras to offer Hybrid Phase Detection Auto-Focus (PDAF). I agree, mechanical shutter with more than 7fps would be great, however it's not meant to be a sports/action/wildlife camera? The sensor, while not new, has been further developed to include phase-detection pixels as part of the hybrid focusing system. This makes the S5II and S5IIX the first Panasonic Lumix cameras to incorporate phase detection focusing. Video The cameras are built to robust standards for in-field use, with magnesium alloy die-cast front and rear frames and a splash- and dust-resistant 1 construction.

Panasonic LUMIX S5 II vs S5 IIX - key differences explained

A new file will be created to continue recording if the continuous recording time exceeds the following conditions. again, the biggest problem...they have a bad rap for bad af for YEARS and took their sweet time to repair that tainted rep they have. 5 yrs late. Wi-Fi 5 GHz (IEEE802.11ac) 13 and 2.4 GHz (IEEE802.11b/g/n) effectively provide a- secure and stable connection on smartphones, tablets, and other devices on location for smooth remote control. The transmission speed of photo/video data is also increased by using the 5 GHz band. Compatibility with Bluetooth 5.0 (called BLE: Bluetooth Low Energy) enables constant connection with a smartphone or tablet with minimum power consumption. The settings of LUMIX S5II and S5IIX camera can be copied and transmitted wirelessly to other LUMIX S5II and S5IIX cameras when using multiple LUMIX S5II and S5IIX cameras. The LUMIX Sync application for iOS/Android devices allows remote control of the camera using a smartphone or a tablet via easy wireless connection. In addition to wireless control via a Remote Shutter DMW-RS2 (sold separately), application software LUMIX Tether enables tethered shooting via USB. Users can control the camera by connecting it to a PC via USB. It lets them view the image on a large PC screen while shooting. The stabilization system also underpins the eight-shot 96MP High Resolution mode. The S5 II doesn't have the hand-held high-res mode from the GH6, and so requires a tripod or otherwise fixed camera, but it still offers a motion correction mode for preventing artifacts from moving subjects in the scene. New processor The styling of the S5 II is very much in keeping with that of the original model: it's a mid-sized, fairly squared-off design with a very distinct SLR-like shape to it (compared, say, to Nikon's Z-series cameras). Despite being the smaller model in the company's L-mount lineup, it has extensive external control points, including details such as a dedicated AF mode switch, that are unusual at this level.

Now I was about to get into a technical discussion and they still don't talk and instead engage in whataboutism (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whataboutism). Don't go looking for any differences in the S5 IIX's sensor because there aren't any. The sensor, resolution, ISO range and AF system are identical. (Image credit: Panasonic) As well as offering external recording of full-frame 5.9K (16:9) 5888×3312 12-bit 29.97p, 23.98p or 25p footage, the S5IIX can record to an external device from an APS-C section of its sensor in 4.1K (17:9) 4128×2176 12-bit at 59.94p, 29.97p, 23.98p, 50p or 25p, or in 3.5K (4:3) 3536×2656 12-bit 29.97p, 23.98p, 50p or 25p. The camera's battery life rating is a rather disappointing 370 shots per charge, per CIPA standard testing methods. As always, these numbers tend to significantly underestimate how many shots you can typically expect (unless your shooting style is very energy-intensive). A 370 shot-per-charge rating will typically give you plenty of charge for a day's shooting, but you'll want to keep a USB power source near to hand for intensive shoots. A power-saving mode gives a rating of 1,250 shots per charge for viewfinder shooting.

The only thing you'll need to keep in mind is that the heavier encoding options (basically anything north of 600Mbps) will require recording to an external SSD, rather than an SD card. This is no issue for us, portable SSDs are both more affordable and extremely convenient - if a slight hassle to mount. That said, third-party clamps are already available from brands like SmallRig. The S5 II has a good competitive price and rolling shutter should not be an issue like with the A7, though still not as good as the R6 II.

This version of the camera has a stills photography focus with some advanced video functions. A Panasonic Lumix DC-S5 IIX is slated to arrive later in 2023, which will have all the features of this model plus a few additional professional video settings. Key specifications Image stabilization has been a staple strength of Lumix cameras since the release of the GH5 and the S5II X raises the bar further still with the inclusion of Active I.S.. Utilizing a combination of upgraded hardware and more intuitive algorithms, the S5IIX anticipates and counteracts the movements associated with walking and holding telephoto lenses. This delivers smoother footage when filming while walking and allows you to handhold shots with uncanny levels of stability. When combined with a compatible lens, like the Lumix S 24-105, which has stabilization built into it, the S5II X can offer up to 6.5 stops of correction.

I'm not aware of any sports photographers using Panasonic. Plenty of Canon, Nikon, and Sony sports photographers. A few of them even make enough money to pay for their gear. Richard, It seems I am repeating myself here. Why is there no full review of this groundbreaking S5ii/x? A global leader in developing innovative technologies and solutions for wide-ranging applications in the consumer electronics, housing, automotive, industry, communications, and energy sectors worldwide, the Panasonic Group switched to an operating company system on April 1, 2022 with Panasonic Holdings Corporation serving as a holding company and eight companies positioned under its umbrella. Founded in 1918, the Group is committed to enhancing the well-being of people and society and conducts its businesses based on founding principles applied to generate new value and offer sustainable solutions for today’s world. The Group reported consolidated net sales of Euro 56.40 billion (7,388.8 billion yen) for the year ended March 31, 2022. Devoted to improving the well-being of people, the Panasonic Group is united in providing superior products and services to help you Live Your Best. So in general there is no burden but caprice. And there is absolutely no sense to develop separate photo and video market with MILC technology. When you can use same sensor and lenses for both. This is not only economical nonsense, but it also harming the environment, and make products more expensive. At the heart of the S5 II is a new processing engine that is the first product of Panasonic's L² co-development project with Leica. The two companies shared know-how and resources to develop the new processor, which we'd expect to see in future Leica models, too. I'd make noises about paying for all those video features I'd never use as a stills shooter.. but this camera is low enough in price that after having tried one, I wouldn't worry about it. Like the original S5, the S5IIX is far from small and fiddly. It’s grip is reasonably chunky and it feels comfortable in the hand. It’s also good to know that the camera body frame is made from die-cast magnesium alloy and it’s sealed against dust and moisture ingress. However, it will be interesting to see how the fan vents cope with rain. The S5 II includes a fan mechanism, to allow video shooting for extended periods. The fan is at the top of the camera, with vents under the leading edge and along the sides of the viewfinder hump, drawing the heat up and out of the camera. As usual, the fan sits outside the body's sealed area, so the vents aren't a weak point for its dust and splash resistant design.

Image quality is broadly comparable, with the Sony offering slightly better detail capture at low ISO but slipping a little behind in low light conditions. The Sony offers the most impressive battery life but also the weakest rolling shutter performance in video, making it more difficult than ever to choose between the four cameras. whos buying it sony user? not a chance. theyre already invested. canon, nope again. nikon, why? obviously more pana shooters. but thats about it.Panasonic has always excelled at hybrid cameras which emphasis on video. The addition of phase detect is long over due upgrade. The body of the camera is built around a full magnesium alloy frame, ensuring that it’s tough enough to handle regular professional use. And thanks to its dust and weather resistance, it’s also a camera you can use with confidence in most conditions. What’s most surprising is that the S5II X can be used in direct rain, despite the fact that it has open vents, which form part of its active cooling system. Another remarkable thing about the cooling system is that it doesn’t add a huge amount of size to the body, making the new S5II and S5II X appear similar in size to their predecessor and weighing only 26g more. The added weight and extra millimetres in size are a fair trade for this camera’s capabilities and unlimited video recording times at all resolutions.
