Beuh... Ya tau sih dia masih kecil, tapi saya nggak bisa aja menyukai sosok si Kenny ini, karena meskipun mereka sudah kabur sama-sama dan melalui hal berat bersama, kayaknya si Kenny nggak terhubung terlalu kuat dengan ibu dan kakak perempuannya -___- Honestly could be my favorite book I’ve read this year. I haven’t felt real feelings from a book in a while 🥺🥺🥺 HIGHLY recommend especially if you like epic novels/historical fiction.

I've just finished reading The Attic Child and I'm litterally crying my eyes out: what a beautiful, compelling, emotional, heart-breaking book this is! The Looney Tunes Show head writer Hugh Davidson is from San Antonio (the city where Manu Ginobili spent his basketball career) and his favorite player was Ginobili. When Lola gets to the "even if they have terrible hair?" part of her line "It's too hard for me to read, so I never do. Don't you think I wanna read about American princesses and unicorns and the Bossy Twins, even if they have terrible hair?," the closed-captions omit the word "have." A hauntingly powerful and emotionally charged novel about family secrets, love and loss, identity and belonging.

This one has the "awww" factor! It's a sweet story about how Lola is read to by mom and dad, then when her baby brother is born, she reads to him. Nothing groundbreaking, but definitely a keeper. I’m torn on a final rating. This could have been a 5 star book, but it was a little too long, a little too “let’s wrap everything up in a bow”, but the first half was simply incredible. Incredible, incredible. Dikembe is a character that will stay with me for a long time. This book focuses on a particularly difficult topic, even by Wilson standards. Domestic violence affects thousands of families, and it is captured sensitively in this book through the eyes of a young child. When Jayni, her brother and mum are forced to leave their house suddenly due to the fathers violence, they decide to take on false identities and begin a new life. Such an amazing read to get me out of a slight reading slump I was in. Don’t get me wrong by that rating you might not think so, but I can assure you I very much liked the book. Selama baca buku ini aku bawaannnya kayak si Lola Rose ini. Selalu kawatir, resah dan gak habis pikir dengan tabahnya Lola Rose menghadapi smua cobaan yg terjadi di keluarganya..dia baru 12 thn dan dituntut dewasa karna kondisi keluarganya gitu...

Personally, I thought that for all her flaws, Nikki/Victoria was a sympathetic character. She, Jayni/Lola Rose, and Kenny/Kendall obviously love and care for each other and that makes you want the three of them to have a happy ending. As with The Illustrated Mum, Lola Rose is a book that still has the ability to pull at my heartstrings even though I’ve read it many times. Lola said that it's too hard for her to read, But she has no problem reading Lincoln's coffee note that says "World's Best Dad!" in " Ties That Bind". This is the perfect book for families with a child and expecting another child or where there is a younger/baby sibling in the family. Dual timelines and MCs weave the story together in the most seamless way. The author provided impeccable character development. I was fully immersed in this story and thoroughly enjoyed reading the physical copy and audiobook concurrently. By the end, I wanted to MEET Dikembe because his story just came to life. He was such a REMARKABLE character; I would’ve loved to have known him. Ahora disponible en español! Lincoln tries to help Lola, but Lola, not wanting to continue reading, tries to evade Lincoln, eventually getting into a scuffle. During their fighting, Lola reveals that she finds it difficult to read. When Lincoln questions her, Lola explains that though she can read a little, she has trouble with learning how to read more and that was why she didn't want to participate in the reading contest. Feeling sympathetic for Lola, Lincoln decides to help Lola learn how to read, to which she's grateful for. In the study room, Lincoln teaches Lola how to properly pronounce specific words. Two and a half hours later, Lola successfully reads the entire book, but the moment she and Lincoln exit, the family angrily confronts them, saying they missed the deadline. Lincoln attempts to take the blame to spare Lola, but Lola decides to step in, admitting to the rest of the family that she had trouble with reading before, but with Lincoln's help, she realizes that reading is not as hard as she thought it was, and now she has a newfound interest. Now knowing the whole story, the family forgives Lola and apologizes as well for forcing her to read in the first place, and for not helping her to learn either. One of the most devastating genocides in human history is highlighted in Lola Jaye's THE ATTIC CHILD, in which a young boy is taken from his Congolese home and thrust into a European world which, at worst, hates him, and at best, sees him as a living curiosity. Through sheer force of will, Dikembe/Celestine not only survives, but finds a way to love and thrive despite all that is set against him. As his story intersects with the parallel story of a young woman desperate to make sense of her own trauma, the reader explores universal truths of love, narrative, and survival. My heart bled as I bore witness to Dikembe's coming of age, and it nearly burst when he reached his ultimate triumph. Lola Jaye has surpassed her goal to "give a lion a voice," resulting in a world, a shared history, and a truth that is laid painfully bare.
