Another season, another flagship, another mini in tow. Guess we all know the drill but HTC had quite a few decisions to make. To begin with, they went for a bigger screen, placing the mini 2 right between the original and last season's flagship. The UltraPixel camera was dropped for a regular 13MP unit, which looks like a good move judging by our recent experience with the Desire 816. Then again, with KitKat right out of the box, the Snapdragon 400 will probably do just fine. Plus, the One mini 2 has something the former flagship and its compact version don't - a memory card slot. The BoomSound stereo speakers on the front are a definite asset too. And the looks and build are something you just can't take away.

stand-by time is the longest time a battery charge will last, if the device is not used but is constantly connected to the 2G cellular network. The One Mini 2’s biggest compromise is its internal hardware. While its quad-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor is by no means slow, the Snapdragon 400 is also used in the considerably cheaper Motorola Moto G. Admittedly, the One Mini 2 was slightly faster in the SunSpider JavaScript benchmark, completing it in 1,185ms compared to the Moto G’s 1,410ms. It's not a huge issue though, as with a steady hand the HTC One Mini 2 is capable of taking some nice shots. Similar to the CPU, the GPU consists of processing units called cores. They handle the computation of graphics in various applications. The One mini 2 replaces the original HTC One Mini, which itself was a smaller, cut-down version of the HTC One M7 from 2013. The new “mini” smartphone has a 4.5 in high-definition screen, which makes it larger than an iPhone 5S and most other smaller, mid-range phones. [5]

Thankfully, the screen’s contrast levels were better. We measured a contrast ratio of 1,289:1, and our darker test images showed plenty of detail. This didn’t help the screen’s narrow viewing angles, though, as the screen became noticeably darker when we set it down on a table compared to when we were looking at it face-on. It was still bright enough to see the screen clearly, but we found it difficult to read lots of text on HTC’s Blinkfeed news reader, for instance, unless we were holding the phone in our hand. There's a bit of bad news as the One Mini 2 also misses out on OIS, even though its bigger brother sports the technology which produces sharper, clearer images. megapixel, 1.12μm camera with auto focus, UltraPixel BSI image sensor, Geotagging, smart LED flash, F2.2 aperture, 1080p HD video recording, video stabilization
