Bestselling author Alexandra Christo, author of TikTok sensation To Kill a Kingdom, introduces her new book, The Night Hunt (Hot Key Books), a dark... Chris Haughton’s illustrations are distinctive. He uses a strong but limited colour palette to portray the Arctic environment and vivid, warm colours for the penguins. This is reinforced by the typeface. Although simplistic in style, the illustrations convey the characters’ range of emotions: anxiety, uncertainty, fright, relief, joy and above all love. The dangers of Mummy Penguin’s adventure are demonstrated through the use of perspective and frames. Many images of Little Penguin and Daddy Penguin are frameless with large amounts of white space, encouraging the reader to consider their relationship and Little Penguin’s feelings. What's more, the message of the book is truly heartwarming. It's a story of love, dedication, and perseverance, and it's a perfect reminder of just how much parents do for their children. The book shows that even when things get tough, a mother's love can conquer all. From a distance, Daddy Penguin and Little Penguin watch Mommy Penguin as she gets dinner. While gliding through the water looking for fish, she waves her wing at Little Penguin. Despite the fish being really fast, Mommy Penguin catches one. Dapo Adeola, Tracy Darnton, Joseph Coelho and Chitra Soundar are among the 19 authors and illustrators longlisted for the Inclusive Books for Child...

Long established as a master of storytelling for children thanks to his Artemis Fowl series, Eoin Colfer teamed up with brilliant illustrator Chris Judge for this beautiful and meaningful book. If you follow Judge on social media, you’ll be familiar with his Daily Cloud offerings. Based on first-hand experience from the renowned artist’s life, it’s a story about a little girl called Erin who becomes ill, but who finds solace during her lengthy hospital stays in the ‘cloud babies’ she sees in the sky.WELL DONE, MOMMY PENGUIN is a laugh-out-loud tale that portrays a penguin youngster who is nervous about when Mommy is going to return. Little Penguin is with their attentive daddy, but they really want Mommy, and repeatedly asks about her return. Meanwhile, Mommy Penguin is busily engaged in heroics and contortions as she seeks to score a fish with which to feed her anxious child. Mummy Penguin is going out and leaving Daddy Penguin and Little Penguin, but where is she going, and will she return? In this simple and joyous story, Daddy Penguin takes on the role of looking after Little Penguin while courageous Mummy Penguin hunts for dinner. But her task is not without its dangers, all watched by Little Penguin and Daddy Penguin. This is a simple narrative, reminiscent of classics like Michael Rosen’s We’re Going on a Bear Hunt, Martin Waddell’s Owl Babies and the more recent Astro Girl by Ken Wilson-Max. The ending is wonderful, a question which suggests that Mummy Penguin’s work is not yet done. The ideal picture book is equally entertaining to the child and the child's adult. Most books achieve this through a two-tier approach -- humor and visually appealing illustrations for the child, engagement and discussion prompts for the parent. But in WELL DONE, Haughton does something magical by meeting both the parent and the child at the same level.

Wow! Chris Haughton's 'Well Done, Mommy Penguin' is an absolute gem of a picture book! From the beautiful illustrations to the heartwarming story, it's a joy to read and a delight for both parents and children. As a fan, and as a former childcare professional, I’m excited to recommend WELL DONE, MOMMY PENGUIN. Beautifully illustrated in cool shades with contrasting orange accents, Haughton's picture book depicts the exhausting triumph of raising a child without coming off as preachy. As I mentioned,I’d been working on a VR project, Little Earththe previous year. VR is an incredible medium but its almost too immersive. You lose all bearings and sense of reality andso scale and distanceis not something you could show with VR.I had spent the dayplotting the solar systemalong the river and that evening I went for a walk in the same area…Ilooked downatgoogle maps to get my bearings… and saw the very same map Ihad been looking at all day.I had an idea! Augmented reality could work really well with the project! It wouldadd a completely different dimension to the project. Seeing theplanets mappedto the map is what makes it tangible. Besides being a five-star book full of action, it also teaches little ones not to give up when things get hard. Bright pictures illustrate the story well. Children three to seven-years-old will enjoy this tale, and be surprised about all the things that must be over-come just for one dinner! Learning about history, geography and culture can often be an overwhelming and frankly, a dull experience for little people. Not on Myles Dungan’s watch, though. The well-known Irish author, historian and broadcaster’s history of our little island encompasses everything from the Celts, to the Famine, to the 1916 Rising - all presented in child-friendly chunks and accompanied by fabulous illustrations courtesy of Alan Dunne. Overall, 'Well Done, Mommy Penguin' is a must-have for any family with young children. It's a beautiful book that both parents and kids will love to read together again and again. So go ahead and add it to your library - you won't be disappointed!

Seat in rows A-GG have 20cm (73/4“) of legroom in front of each seat, with restricted legroom in rows A-D.I’ve been working and thinking on and off about this project for the last eightyears,so I’m veryexcited to be able to finally share with you some of my work from this.

There’s no question that books from Chris Haughton’s pen (stylus?) are modern children’s classics, like the wonderful A Bit Lost (2010) and 2014’s Shh! We Have a Plan. The London-based Irish illustrator and author’s blend of humour and his distinctive style is always a joy. His latest offering Well Done, Mummy Penguin - an ode to resilient mammies and the lengths they go to for their families - is another gorgeous string to his bow. Chris Haughton’s distinctive graphic illustrations and bold blue colour palette bring lots of humour and expression to this suspenseful story. Children can follow the story easily even without the text, although the use of text repetition is brilliant as it adds to the anticipation. Seeing Mummy’s adventure from Little Penguin’s point of view also brings us much closer to the action and will likely have little readers cheering on Mummy Penguin too!The winners of the Diverse Book Awards 2023 have been announced, with one winner from each of the four categories announced: Picture book, Children... This over-sized picture book shows some of the difficulties that Mommy Penguin faces just to get food for her family. Children will cheer her on as she does not give up. Just like Little Penguin, they will tell her well-done each time she keeps trying. I sent it to my editor Deirdre. She urged me to drop the big bad wolf idea and work on this instead. So I did. I was very happy about doing this new story, I had done an animation about climate change a few years ago set in Antarctica and I liked the setting and always intended to do more on that. Richard Seabrooke was brought on board to help produce it. Myself and Richard walked the Poolbeg pier on a freezing, windy day in March 2018.
