I think being Scottish means I’m just naturally drawn to that – we Scots are brilliant at mining comedy from pretty dark seams sometimes, and we’ll tell the most horrendously embarrassing stories to make our friends laugh. It's the story of how a tattooed transgender rock singer killed a depressed suburban dad, and of the lessons you learn when you renounce all your privilege and power.

But unfortunately for me, coming out coincided with the beginning of a huge pushback against trans people, especially in the UK and Scottish press and on social media. Yes, there were tears of anger at the transphobia Carrie and others have had to and continue to face and tears of frustration and disbelief at the sheer lack of humanity within our NHS when it comes to trans healthcare and access to services but…there was also joy; so much joy. From coming out and navigating trans parenthood to the thrills of gender-bending pop stars, fashion disasters and looking like Velma Dinkley, this is a tale of ripping it up and starting again: Carrie's story in all its fearless, frank and funny glory. Carrie Marshall's constant need to tell me that "women should dress for the age they are, not the age they want to be" started to really piss me off!Things feel really dark right now, but there’s a huge generational shift happening and it’s really beautiful to see.

You can push a culture war, ban books and try to bring back Section 28, but that knowledge and understanding and empathy is out there now. I remember a lot of the examples Carrie brings up in her book, but it's jarring to see them laid out so vividly. From coming out and navigating trans parenthood to the thrills of gender-bending pop stars, fashion disasters and looking like Velma Dinkley, this is a tale of ripping it up and starting again: Carrie’s story in all its fearless, frank and funny glory. She has written, ghost-written or co-written more than a dozen non-fi ction books, a radio documentary series, and more. It’s been really interesting and a little bit strange, especially with some of the more difficult memories: you’re taking things that used to cause you great shame and sometimes pain and putting them out there for others to see and potentially judge you for.At first I wasn’t sure about whether being funny was appropriate, but I think it’s important because there’s a poisonous narrative of trans people and the wider community as militant, humourless, thought-policing snowflakes when the reality is completely different. So far it’s been nominated for Discover Book of the Year in the 2023 British Book Awards, chosen as Book of the Week by Damian Barr’s Literary Salon, picked as one of The Scotsman’s Books of the Year in 2022 and had various nice things said about it in print and online. Carrie powerfully reflects on both what one can lose by choosing to honour their truest self, but more importantly what she has gained.

Viviciously Scots, angry in all the right bits and an author who actually places importance in the good bits of being trans, this book is a gorgeous, real and emotional memoir of not just the author, but every trans person in some degree. The organisation I'm raising money for with the trans rights readathon is Scottish Trans Alliance: if you would like to donate, you can do so here https://www. I was lucky enough to get my copy and have it signed by Carrie herself at its launch last month and have been really excited to read it since. To be a closeted trans person and see Eddie up there on stage, out and proud and absolutely loved by thousands of people, was like discovering a whole new colour. You can also drag and drop the file onto your Kindle if you attach the device to your PC with a USB cable. Written with so much heart, honesty and vulnerability, Carrie Marshall sets out to tell her own trans journey and somehow manages to describe everyone's. Culture is a constant thread within your memoir, whether influences, crushes, favourite bands – who are some cultural figures who had the biggest impact on you and why?

Once you have identified which file is best for your use, you will need to manually upload the relevant file to your device. We specialise in hard to find and international magazine titles including Apartamento, L'Étiquette, Popeye and Gentlewoman along with a range of fiction and non-fiction books from a wide range of independent publishers. Carrie's stories about her early fashion mishaps had me roaring with laughter - 'bondage potato' literally had me weeping, and chuckling hours later.Carrie holds nothing back and takes us step by step on her journey through elements I would never even think of.
