I would have loved to catch up with her too,’ I say, and it’s true. Once, my high school bestie and I were inseparable, but now an entire year can go by without us exchanging a word. It’s not that we meant to grow apart, we just did. Every time I see Paige Toon is releasing a new book I literally Squeal with excitement! I have been reading her books since the very beginning .. well since Lucy in the sky ... and I have loved every single book she has released since! On the face of it Theo is the spoilt rich kid who comes to Leah’s mainstream school after previously being at a boarding school.

Theo's wealthy family have mysteriously pulled him out of boarding school and he's now enrolled at the local state school with Leah and George. When their worlds collide that summer, the three teenagers form a bond they believe will be unbreakable. But life doesn't always go to plan... I really don't know where to start with this review, I mean I thought the book was fabulous, and I heartily recommend it to everyone but I can't quite get to grips with my thoughts past that. I really don't want to say much more as I went into this blindly just knowing who wrote it, and loved discovering all of its beauty for myself and don't want to risk spoiling anything as there were a couple of reveals that were very cleverly crafted! We both start as Alfred, an elderly farmer from the surrounding area, interrupts from a nearby huddle. The old man hobbles over to say hello, unaware that we’re having a ‘moment’.

I loved this from start to finish! I loved the characters, the alternating of chapters between the then and now and most importantly I loved the alpaca’s! Can I persuade the husband to let me have one in the garden! 🤔😂 me thinks not but a girl can dream! I actually spent 3/4s of the book thinking something had gone one way and when it was made clearer and I realised I was so wrong - man the tears! It just changed everything! A great but sad little twist.

The research for this was eye opening. I hadn't fully understood the amazing job that foster parents and those that adopt go through. It broke my heart at times. An inspiring, unforgettable, incredibly special story. Highly recommend. I loved it. A beautiful story about love and family and healing broken hearts. It swept me up and wouldn’t let me go—I had tears in my eyes by the end.”—Beth O’Leary, author of The Road TripI adored how Paige explores the bond Ivan and Carrie form with the children they foster, regardless of how difficult they are, they never give up on them and show them the endless love and support they so desperately need. They really are a remarkable couple who have well and truly secured a place within my heart. I truly don’t know where to start with this review. Paige Toon made this book everything I had hoped for, and so, SO much more! Oh my heart, this book hit me with ALL THE FEELS. It's one that will stay with me for a very long time 💕⁣ The ‘then’ story focuses around the care system which I found really interesting. Leah’s parents are probably the most selfless most heartwarming characters I have ever read about. Being foster parents they are honestly amazing, creating a safe environment for all children, even letting those that stay with them choose their very own tree to plant. Love it! I enjoyed reading about Leah, Theo and George growing together through the tough times and good. Mum and Dad have finally retired from fostering, but they will never retire from parenting, and that’s what they consider themselves to be to every young person who ever walked through their front door: parents. Those who came to them left knowing that this place would always be open. Fostering wasn’t a job to my parents, it was a vocation. It’s why they’ve stayed in touch with so many of their former charges, why so many of them have made the effort to travel here tonight.

Appealing characters, an emotionally charged storyline crux, a revealing look into fostering and a link made between past lives to current day living, Someone I Used To Know is a story for all readers.

What a perfect emotive journey! I could feel every character so brilliantly, the writing was beyond immersive… I really never wanted this to end!’ LOUISE PENTLAND Leah’s return home also coincides with George’s return to Yorkshire, after he upped and left one day. Okay, maybe this is my second.’ He smiles up at me with his best puppy-dog please-don’t-be-mad impression. ‘You’ve been gone ages!’ There was one from George,’ she adds, and my jealousy is immediately scrubbed out by another emotion I couldn’t even begin to describe. A heartfelt, heartbreaking and heartwarming story of love, family and loss and the ties that bind us’ DANI ATKINS

Leah is a favourite of mine with how she has coped through all of it and is a brilliant role model for her daughter Emilie. She sums her life up perfectly when she realises if life had turned out differently she would never have had Emilie in her life. The one thing she would not change, the one thing she would never class as a mistake. She earns a special place with me for this. Gorgeous, brimming with heart, this is Paige Toon at her best. Beautiful and accomplished... A class act' MILLY JOHNSONThe relationship between Leah and George felt so special throughout this book, and reduced me to tears many, many times while reading. The journeys they both experienced felt all the more important as the book came to an ending, as we got to experience the pair at two different points in their lives: childhood and adulthood, while also finding out information along the way that filled the gaps between these two times (another thing done beautifully!), so it really felt as though I knew the ins and outs of these characters by the time I’d finished.
