The intended slip-on construction of these shoes was evident to see and I would applaud Puma for implementing this feature. The articulation geometry on the upper, midsole and outsole contributed to the overall comfort factor of these Puma golf shoes. The GS-Fast comes with a wide rubber outsole that is littered with a ton of small rubber studs. That means these shoes are better used as a summer golf shoe but still performed very well in slightly soft autumnal conditions with their grippy outsole providing solid traction on the turf. They are also completely waterproof and are very easy to wipe down after your round. Style is inherently subjective but there’s nothing inherently off-putting about the PUMA IGNITE Articulate. For those of you who have bemoaned the modern style of the two BOA shoes I’ve reviewed so far, the relatively conventional design should help you sleep easier tonight.

The Puma IGNITE series has long been known for their comfort, and the Articulate Disc series is no exception. The latest version has improved its foam sole base and well padded interior which allowed my feet to be supported without any rigidity. Once I put them on, I knew the adjustment period would be short. The disc lacing made it easy and efficient to adjust the shoes to my liking. These shoes straight away offer superior step-in comfort, eliminating the need to break shoes in, which feels so last decade now. The ignite foam Puma golf have designed offers a snug feel and cushion when walking and feels springy in the swing. Thankfully modern golf shoe design has seen many brands not just create traditional, classic-looking shoes, but also modern styles that can be used off the golf course too. Articulating PWRCAGE– PUMA’s strategic use of vowels and capitalization is sometimes baffling but the point is that the PWRCAGE structure provides a more secure fit. Not that it’s supposed to be, but the IGNITE Articulate definitely isn’t the Titan Tour. Initially, that was the bad news. What I found on the course is that the PUMA IGNITE Articulate is the closest thing I’ve found to my favorite golf shoe– the FootJoy FJ Freestyle. Many players choose to have one pair for winter and another, lighter pair for summer to keep them fresh and suit different requirements. PWR Frame- Strategically placed, ultra-thin TPU frame for lightweight support/durability & increased flexibility The Ignite PU foam is included to provide a high-energy return and long-lasting cushioning. Time will tell if the Ignite foam cushioning will serve me for a number of years, but if my experience with the shoe so far is anything to go by, I have full confidence in this product.

This is the best way of testing a golf shoe as using it in the real world over a number of weeks allows us to see how they perform when variables change like weather, ground conditions, different stances and lies, and so on. The flexibility of the shoe is a good bit of what I love about the design but with all of that bending and flexing comes some squeaking. It seems to originate where the upper overlaps with the PWRCAGE structure. I only notice it from time to time (usually when I’m walking around and getting ready to blow an eight-foot putt six feet past the cup) but it’s there. Not all the time, mind you, but occasionally it sounds like a well-worn innerspring mattress during playtime. I’m going to level with you. My hope was that the IGNITE Articulate would conjure memories of the Titan Tour golf shoe. The Titan Tour was our 2015 Editors’ Choice for Best Golf shoe. It remains my favorite PUMA shoe.

Pictured in this review is the Quiet Shade and Puma Silver color scheme but there are five other color combinations available. This was clear to feel when I slipped them on and it became even more obvious when I began to walk the course and take my swings. The shoe was no burden on my feet, I had no blisters despite wearing them for the first time, and I’d say they were fairly light on my feet too.

Cleat Traction Pattern (with HEX Traction Lugs)– Who’s counting, right? Anyway, the IGNITE Articulte features eight Tornado cleats which incidentally is the same number of cleats as my favorite golf shoe ever. More on that in a bit. As far as wide golf shoes go, the IGNITE Articulate isn’t as wide as some others. It’s definitely not FootJoy Tour Alpha BOA wide, for example. It’s fine for me but if you need a really wide shoe, the Articulate might not get it done.
