Paths described may be pleasant for walking in fine weather, but can become slippery, boggy and dangerous in wet and wintry weather. It's definitely an inspirational read and I hope this book achieves Louise's aim of correcting the gender bias.

Louise Minchin - Fearless Louise Minchin - Fearless

the most incredible examples of girl power' Judy Murray OBE'It's brilliant - I loved it' Lorraine Kelly'Brilliant .In the course of this book she tries out all manner of often terrifying and usually uncomfortable activities including climbing, caving and freediving under a metre of ice in the dark, along with less immediately dangerous but also challenging activities like walking across Dartmoor and playing rugby. Throughout her career, she has used her profile and voice to champion women’s stories and to push for change raising awareness of the menopause, mental health, women’s safety, and more. Having raced her first triathlon in 2013, she went on to compete in her Age Group at five World and European triathlon championships before completing a number of extreme events including some of the toughest long-distance triathlons in the world. When I discovered she was writing this book about Fearless women taking themselves out of their comfort zones and undertaking extraordinary challenges and adventures I knew I had to read ( listen ) it.

The book was inspired by noticing that they were always interviewing men who had done these amazing things and decided to do something to start correcting the media bias by finding extraordinary women who had also been doing amazing things. From free-diving under the ice in the dark in Finland with the first female to swim a mile in the Antarctic Circle, to cycling across Argentina with one of the world’s most famous female endurance runners - find out how Louise formed close bonds with incredible women whose motivation, resilience and determination have led them to accomplish unbelievable feats. There are 18 women all doing amazing, inspirational things and Louise tells their stories as she interviews them doing their own things along side them and participating whether it is swimming, running, diving, hiking. Join Louise on a roller coaster of highs and lows, and feel empowered, touched and inspired by these fearless women. Lots of different stories from an array of fascinating women, sports and challenges and I loved that Louise got involved herself in many of them too.Following her fight at the BBC for equal rights of female newsreaders to be given more headline/top of the hour slots, compared to male counterparts. Freediving under the ice in the dark in Finland, Louise meets with Cath, the first woman to swim a mile in the Antarctic Circle; she cycles across Argentina with Mimi, one of the world's most famous female endurance runners; and swims from Alcatraz with Anaya and Mitali, two young sisters who have braved the shark-infested waters over 70 times. Louise's reason for this book was the under representation of women in the media and this goes a long way to show that what he can do she's doing just as well if not better. Fearless:Adventures with Extraordinary Women by Louise Minchin is a fabulous, inspiring book about women who are extraordinary. I wasn't very familiar with TV presenter and triathlete Louise Minchin, as I don't watch breakfast TV, but the concept of this book sounded interesting.
