If the cost of living crisis is causing your purse strings to tighten, Toshiba’s new Quantum Dot TV might be a savvy upgrade for your living room or bedroom. The TV is powered by the brand’s TRU Picture Engine, with TRU Resolution upscaling, TRU Micro Dimming and TRU Flow MEMC all on board, along with support for Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. I haven’t had a proper play with the TV in terms of the interface but there are a lot of good features on paper including Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support – though testing speakers is never an option at a busy trade show. The mid-range model features a sleek frameless design, 4K HDR10 image quality and support for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The TV also includes all the benefits of the TRU Picture Engine.

Toshiba has selected IFA 2022 to debut its latest range of TVs. Here’s everything the company announced during the event. With Sound by Onkyo, the QA5D is also powered by the Android TV operating system, with Chromecast built-in, and Google Assistant can be accessed via a mic in the Bluetooth remote. There’s also the usual apps: Apple TV+, Disney+, Freeview Play, Netflix, Prime Video, Twitch and YouTube available from Google Play. The UF3D The UA3D – coming in 43, 50 and 55-inch sizes, is an Android TV offering people who have an existing Google Home set-up, the choice to integrate a Google powered TV into their smart home set up. Dan is completely platform agnostic and very at home using and writing about Windows, macOS, Android and iOS/iPadOS plus lots and lots of gadgets including audio and smart home gear, laptops and smartphones. This 4K UHD model also features Toshiba’s TRU Picture Engine with Dolby Vision, HDR10 and HLG. Dolby Atmos is supported, and Onkyo has also designed its speakers. I cannot work out a way to disable this in the TV's Standard or Cinema picture modes. The advanced options screen has a control for DI Film Mode, which can be set to Auto or Off, but changing this doesn't seem to have any effect. None of the historical names Toshiba has applied to this cursed feature seem to have made it into this model.

My BR player also has a 24p option, but I can't find any info on whether this is supported on the Toshiba - again, changing this doesn't seem to have any effect, As with every TV in this line-up, the UK4D includes 85 Freeview channels and over 20,000 hours of on-demand content from the likes of BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, UKTV Play, CBS Catchup Channels UK and Horror Bites through Freeview Play.Toshiba QA5D 55 Inch 4K HDR Android Quantum Dot TV, TRU Picture Engine, HDR10+, Dolby Vision & Atmos, Sound by Onkyo, Alexa & Google Assistant The latest films and shows come to life with over 1 billion colour shades delivered by quantum dot technology, exceptional TRU picture quality & powerful audio in a sleek frameless design. This stylish Android 4K TV is the perfect addition to any smart home. Plus, you can now use your voice to search for shows, control your TV, plan your day, and more. Just ask Google. The QA5D is Toshiba’s first ever Quantum Dot model and having seen it in the flesh at this year’s IFA show in Berlin, I have to say I’m very impressed. Showing some quintessential nature demo reels, the image quality was instantly clear to see – vibrant, captivating and crisp. Be transported with breath taking moving audio that fills your room and flows around you. Dolby Atmos®, an internal subwoofer and our integrated speakers, designed by Onkyo, complete your audio and visual cinematic experience for captivating viewing. The Toshiba UK4Ds will support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and carry Toshiba's own smart system. Photo: Toshiba

For those looking for a slightly cheaper Android TV than the flagship QA5D, the UA3D is designed to seamlessly integrate into your Google Home set-up.

Rounding out Toshiba’s latest UK TV range will be the LK3Cs, a pair of 32- and 43-inch HD resolution TVs aimed predominantly at the second room market. Despite not being 4K models, the LK3Cs will still get HDR support (though not Dolby Vision), and will still carry Toshiba’s TRU picture engine.
