The sensitivity, humor, romance, and magic make the hours spent reading pass faster then one can say ABBRACADABBRA. The delightful lore of charming Thistle Grove continues to grow in this evocatively written story, although this tale is quieter than the previous installments, with most of the focus on internal emotions, personal growth, and response to trauma.

If I'm honest, though, the nature of the witch bond, Nina always knowing what Morty's feeling and what have you, felt a bit lazy. I was also really frustrated by the redemption arc I can see coming for the "bad guy" of the first book. I love that queer witches are having their day in this series, but I really hope future books in the series have the same balance as Payback's a Witch. There has been much unnecessary ado about the use of Morty's pronouns within the scope of his and Nineve's relationship. I would highly recommend this series as a whole, but I would like to remind everyone that these books, although part of a series, still work pretty well as standalones.

I also hope the magic will be better explained because, while I found it fascinating, I really couldn’t conceptualize of how it worked. Not to mention that the mental and emotional bond now between them allows them to share each other’s feelings… particularly in the bedroom. Though she does have significant growth throughout the story, I just didn’t feel the urge to root for her at all. This novel works as a standalone novel, but readers will get more background if they start with book one.

Although at first, it appears that Morty and Nineve are opposites and not suited for each other, as they work together to figure out why they find out they are more similar than they thought at first. I fully acknowledge that there are many different kinds of gender expression, however, Morty explicitly said they use he/them pronouns interchangeably (save for when in public/around family they're not out to, which.

Seeing the snippet of In Charm's Way sounds like it'll be Delilah's story, dealing with the aftermath of what she goes through in this one, and I have to say, my hopes are high. They have nothing in common, but end up connected nevertheless after that fateful night when Morty begins developing magical powers. It’s been a year since Nineve Blackmoore was dumped by her fiancée and she is now ready to get herself out of the dumps by trying something completely out of her comfort zone – a dating app.I enjoyed reading this one, as well as the two previous books in the series; this book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend starting at the beginning to get more background and world-building. An attempt was made at inclusivity, but it really felt like this was originally a M/F romance that was changed to F/NB at the last minute to add spiciness. When Nina has a bad start on their first date she is surprised to find that she has a new connection to a goddess of the lake and that Morty somehow has magic. The sexy scenes were hot, I liked that Nina was the child of a narcissistic parent (and how she had protected herself from that situation while also being ensnared in her shenanigans), but overall it was mostly a miss. An awkward first date leads to a sparkling romance between one of the most powerful witches in town and a magical newbie in this rom-com by Lana Harper, New York Times bestselling author of Payback's a Witch. The diverse characterization and great world-building details provide insight into the town’s inhabitants and their differences.
