With vibrant artwork by award-winning illustrator Ross Collins, and delightful characters created by rising star Karl Newson, I am a Tiger is a story that will amuse and entertain everyone, from the smallest mouse to the biggest tiger. I think she’d say (I always think of Mouse as a ‘she’, but to Ross she’s a ‘He’ – I love that Mouse is different for us all) don’t feel restricted by how you look on the outside – it’s how you feel on the inside that counts. A mouse declares “I am a tiger” and manages to convince other creatures not only that this is true, but that they are not what they think they are. My favorite part is when the mouse is saying, incorrectly, the names of other animals for example, for snake he says, "Thin. When a real tiger turns up, can the persuasive and fearless little rodent manage to persuade the tiger that he is a mouse!

My three and five year olds have been roaring with laughter at this - the first time we read it lead to three more consecutive readings and the laughter was still strong and contagious too!

It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything.

Not just the way she handles a situation, but in that to me 'Mouse' is a she, but to Ross, Mouse is a he, and to readers Mouse can be anything they want him/her/them to be. Even when a real tiger prowls onto the page, the mouse confuses him and makes him think that he's a mouse. Ross: I produced a little piece on social distancing and the NHS with my characters from There’s a Bear on My Chair. He went on to study illustration at the Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1994 and in the same year he won the Macmillan Children’s Book Prize for The Sea Hole. Over 740,000 copies of Karl Newson and Ross Collins' I Am A Tiger were given out to reception children during the 2021 Autumn term.So if your child is pretending to be an animal, as long as it’s not stopping their day to day stuff like going to school/nursery and isn’t causing disruption to they’re daily life, then absolutely join in the animal antics! I have even talked the head into a little revamp of the library so that we can display them properly! With hilarious text by Karl Newson and bright and vivid illustrations from Ross Collins, this uproariously funny, read-aloud picture book encourages children to use their imaginations and be who they want to be!

Selected for the Picture Book Award 2020 shortlist, this comes from rising star Karl Newson with vibrant artwork from award-winning illustrator Ross Collins and is a witty and clever story about a little mouse with very big ideas – who believes she is a tiger!Having enjoyed a few of Ross Collins' own books - There's a Bear on My Chair, This Zoo is Not for You - I knew going into I Am a Tiger that I would find the artwork appealing, and sure enough, the brightly-colored, humorous visuals here had me chuckling. When a real tiger turns up, can the persuasive and fearless little rodent manage to persuade the tiger that he is a mouse? The defeated real tiger asks then what the other animals are and Mouse gives them all sorts of new identities, including a banana and a balloon. The illustrations pop off of the page because of the bright, contrasting backgrounds, and it makes the images very clear and defined.

Karl has been shortlisted for the Sainsbury's Children's Book Award, among others, and his stories are published in over 20 languages around the world. The bold little mouse declares "I am a tiger" and manages to convince a raccoon, a fox, a snake and a bird not only that this is true, but that they are not what they think they are. Every time I see it sitting on the bookshelf when I walk by it makes me smile… because I am a tiger and you are a lollipop.

Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. With vibrant artwork by award-winning illustrator Ross Collins, and delightful characters created by rising star Karl Newson, I am a Tiger is a story that will amuse and entertain everyone, from the smallest mouse to the biggest tiger. As you are reading through the pages every animal he encounters he tells that he is a tiger and then he tells them that they are some other animal or object. I adored the swagger and confidence of the irrepressible mouse, and the glorious theme of not letting others tell you who or what you are.
