No, We Can’t Be Friends is a brilliantly relatable, hilarious and feel-good novel that every woman with a waste-of-space ex HAS to read! Yes, she wanted to be a mother desperately, and I could understand this, but not at any cost, not with such a character. This is a companion book to Sorry, Not Sorry (which I wasn't a huge fan of) but you don't need to read that to read this and I really enjoyed No, We Can't Be Friends. I especially liked the relationship Sloane had with all her co-workers, caring and looking after them while she was going through a hard time herself. Fast forward a several months, and we witness Sloane begin to see the cracks in her marriage and the subsequent efforts she puts in attempting to save it.

Josie has been listening to Alix’s podcasts and thinks she might be an interesting subject for her series. However, I think they must have read a different book, as the first 90% didn’t have a single moment that even mildly amused me, never mind made me laugh. No, We Can't Be Friends is a brilliantly relatable, hilarious and feel-good novel that every woman with a waste-of-space ex HAS to read! It's like in place of the actual romance and comedy portions, the author included far more tedious and redundant scenes could have easily been cut out to make this a smooth sailing ride, and the slowpacing storyline was such a drag. The novel begins with Sloane realizing that she's ready to start a family, and her "friend", Bianca, telling her to "get cracking", because it's not like she's "getting any younger".Use QuoteFancy Studio to create high-quality images for your desktop backgrounds, blog posts, presentations, social media, videos, posters and more. There was a scene in particular where Sloane tried out different exercises and her reaction to trying out Zumba made me scream with laughter. I definitely have found myself in several of her situations, so I couldn’t help but root for her to find her way back to herself in spite of her crappy ex-husband. Meanwhile, as Paul is thrust back into the role of suburban fatherhood, his girlfriend, Olivia, is in Manhattan, struggling in the shadow of her mother, a famous actress. When Eliot dies unexpectedly, he even more unexpectedly leaves half of the business to his younger, blonder girlfriend, Savannah.

Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love. I really wish I’d listened to the free sample first though, this is probably just my own personal taste, but the narrators voice just didn’t do it for me. There's this one part where the author uses dialogue to tell what happened on the recent past in what felt like was a very performative- robotic way. Sloane's journey was so well depicted from a giddy girl in love to a woman who loved herself, put herself first. Was it a matter of not liking the character's thoughts or a matter of not liking how the author exposed them?

Further, you may find that maintaining your friendship with her makes it difficult for you to have meaningful relationships with other people, and that's not good for anyone.

There are things I liked, like the underlining commentary on gaslighting and how such narrative can really help people in similar situations. I liked that she took time for herself and I appreciate the ending, but it was rushed and that relationship never really got developed. He turns your world upside down and if he would ask you to follow him to the end of the world, you would not hesitate one single moment. Saying “no” means “no,” and just as you may not be able to control your feelings toward your friend, we can’t force others to feel a certain way about us. But Sam hardly has time to worry about a lost gym bag—she’s struggling to keep herself and her family afloat. We get a lot of jump back and forths about Sloane's mother and why Sloane feels a certain way towards an aging movie star. Without getting into it very much, Ranald shows a great case of gaslighting and I wish had spelled things out in those terms so that Sloane could have had a conversation with herself about that.
