Also, upon seeing a woman that was running to him for help get ripped apart by a wild mob, he sits in the Batmobile/monster truck and listens to her die (he says something about it seeming to take a million years) rather than help her. It's implied this is how he got most of his followers, given how quickly the cult breaks up after he's dead, and how most former members had no idea what they'd been doing under his command. One scene of note- when the young would-be comics artist gets killed by the underworlders- the full page of simply the blood stained artwork- is exceptional- and moving.

This turns Blackfire's followers against him, as they see that their leader is unable to ignore the pain and sacrifice as he preached, and they fall on him.And if we’re being honest, when we look at what separates all of the Robins from one another, for Jason, it kind of is his drive.

Gasoline Dousing: The aforementioned setting fire of Blackfire's totem was preceded by Bruce dosing the thing in gas. Aspects of The Cult can be seen in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, a story about an urban uprising from the sewers and Batman’s attempts to rebuild himself to save Gotham. Deacon Blackfire was truly a fantastic villain, walking the line between conman and demon in such a way that I’d love to see him reappear (with a little more impact than his underwhelming performance in Batman Eternal .Nick: I struggle when starting a Jim Starlin book—his dialogue is so heavy and meaty that you really have to be in the right zone to read one of his comics.
