More than anything though, I think I just found Joni and her life really relatable, and I enjoyed all the details of her life, her flat, her job and her love of the gym.

Firstly because of the need to catfish, and then when the catfish becomes the conned, the need to keep sleeping with him to mine for more information. I don’t think it was a midlife crisis, but instead I had a big kind of epiphany when I was 45,” says the novelist Jane Fallon. Some days, like yesterday, it’ll go great and I’ll have written loads – I think I wrote 1,500 words yesterday morning – before he even gets up.The set-up is glorious - a woman who joins a dating app with a fake photo meets a man whose photo is the only real thing about him. Some hecklers at the back might ask what Fallon (who has been with Gervais for the past 40 years) knows about online dating. Jane is known as the revenge queen, but I really think the dialogue queen is more fitting, because the dialogue is truly masterful in this book.

Whilst you might guess some of it, it’s still just such a fun, whipsmart read and I really didn’t want to put it down for a minute! She is author of ten novels on the Sunday Times Bestseller List — Getting Rid of Matthew, Got You Back, Foursome, The Ugly Sister, Skeletons, Strictly Between Us, My Sweet Revenge, Faking Friends, Tell Me A Secret, and Queen Bee.If you’re a fan of Jane Fallon’s you’ll love this, heck, you’ll love this regardless because it’s a fantastic read! Once she and Ant are an item, however, it's soon clear that the only thing Ant was honest about was his profile picture. She’s a somewhat cautious social media user herself – her Instagram feed is mostly book stuff, and cats, with the occasional glimpse of her and Gervais’s glorious Hampstead pile. Jane Fallon's Just Got Real is one of those rare novels that brings both a tear to your eye and a chill to your heart. Jane Fallon is an English producer and novelist, most famous for her work on popular series Teachers, 20 Things To Do Before You're 30, Eastenders and This Life.

Not to mention she went through his phone while he was asleep and went through his messages in the dating app…. But it doesn’t take long for her to realise that he is still online dating and intimately texting other women. The lion in the boys’ toilet was real’ … from left, Navin Chowdhry, Raquel Cassidy, Andrew Lincoln, Adrian Bower and Nina Sosanya. She doesn’t really want to talk about Gervais and given the hornets’ nest he’s recently kicked over with his outspoken routine on trans women in his latest Netflix special show, Super Nature, it’s not surprising.Fallon says a Manhattan transfer has vaguely been on the cards in recent years, but if anything, she suggests they are now more likely to stray further into the English countryside. Joni decides to try online dating after her being divorced, losing her best friend, and her daughter moving to Manchester.

There were some parts I appreciated, like when Joni forms a connection with the other women that Ant is seeing. Rather than confess her lie, she hatches a plan to 'meet' Ant in real life without revealing who she really is.The three main characters are so different but equally likeable, and I think lots of readers will relate to them in many ways. I realised that the worst thing you can look in photos is self-conscious, so I learned to fake a bit of confidence. However, the snaking turns of revenge plotting are tempered by her perceptive take on female friendship and loss (she doesn’t think it’s a plot-spoiler to share that her main character Joni mourns the death of her best friend more deeply than the end of her marriage). She can't confess her lie, but comes up with a plan to 'meet' Ant in real life without revealing their online connection.
