Scream (also known as Scream 5) is a 2022 American slasher horror film, the fifth installment in the Scream film series, a sequel to the 2011 slasher film Scream 4, a reboot of the Scream franchise. That is the kind of insight fans will be getting with this release and it is very interesting to hear things like that from Beltrami, as now he is a horror regular with Halloween H20: 20 Years Later, A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part 2, and The Fear Street Trilogy which was very inspired by his own work on Scream. Locher also goes into how Scream was Beltrami’s first of seven collaborations with director Wes Craven, who he has nothing but high praise for. “Wes really taught me a lot about how I score movies'', Beltrami said, “I really treasured that relationship. It was more than just a work relationship. It felt like he nurtured my career”. And that is just the tip of this release's bloody blade of content, as Beltrami also goes into the writing process of some of his pieces, like the sound of the infamous opening scene featuring Drew Barrymore in the original film. However, Shane isn't just a movie guy. He also loves video games. Super Mario Sunshine, The Last of Us Part 1 and 2, and Batman: Arkham City are some of his favorites. Music plays a big part in his life as well. Given that Shane's a big horror fan, you might be surprised to learn that he's a pop guy. Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, Dua Lipa, The Jonas Brothers, and Demi Lovato play on repeat while he's writing. The original score is composed by American composer, conductor, arranger and producer Brian Tyler known for his film, television and video game scores. Perhaps best known for his numerous Fast & Furious and Marvel scores, (Ironman, Thor). In discussing his approach, Tyler also clearly understands what makes horror as a genre so captivating to so many people. "There was an emotional component to this new Scream that is an integral dynamic contrast to the terror that accompanies the journey of this film," he said. Finding the right balance of emotional depth and pure terror can make all the difference in the staying power of a horror movie, and Varèse Sarabande will also be releasing a special edition 4-LP version of the previous scores from Marco Beltrami.
