list of retail and wholesale nurseries in the U.S., all of whom carry a variety of cold-hardy grape cultivars. Six of our wines are made with 100% Montana-grown grapes (five of the current six, sold out). As soon as we are able, we intend to increase the number of White Raven wines crafted with Montana grapes. In the meantime, we source whole cluster grapes from Washington, Oregon, and San Diego County, CA to make our other seventeen wines. Notes of dark fruits, cedar and tobacco will delight the nose and palate. Like other rich red wines, you’ll find it shines when paired with beef, lamb or other red meats, or with savory Italian dishes or French beef roasts. It also isn’t too bad on its own.

At White Raven, we feel that the best way to honor our community’s past is to work hard in the present so that we can contribute to its future. This winery belongs to Columbia Falls, just as much as it belongs to us. What Lies Ahead for White RavenThaden officially opened his winery in 2010. The Montana wine industry has flourished, even though it is by no means a traditional wine region. This is because the geographical location has always been an issue. However, the growth of native North American hybrid grapes over the past few decades has made Montana a potential wine-growing country. These hardy little grapes will last the region’s long winters and also make great wines. So, there are some incredible wineries in Montana to explore as a result! How exciting is that? But even as grapes become more feasible crops in Montana, winemakers like Thaden and the McGuires have legislative obstacles to overcome. As it’s written, the Montana Code Annotated presents certain hurdles to in-state winemakers. The bulk of the code was first written in the 1970s and 80s, before cold-hardy hybrid grapes were prominent on the commercial scene, and certainly before Montana had any kind of notable wine presence. What this means is that the code was first written primarily for the distribution and sale of out-of-state wine within Montana. And just because the in-state wine making industry has grown, doesn’t mean the legislation has caught up. Dr. Andrej Svyantek of Montana State University’s Western Agricultural Research Center is one of the people doing wine grape research in Montana. Svyantek says he is excited about the new cultivars being developed for these challenging climates — and what these seedling vines can offer in terms of cold tolerance, disease resistance, and flavor. Vineyards in Montana are known to cultivate grapes used in making red wine varieties. These grapes include Frontenac, Marquette, Marechal Foch and Petite Pearl. While not as prominent, there are a few white wine varieties available, often made using St. Pepin and Prairie Star grapes. Other grapes found in the region include Frontenac Gris, and Crimson Pearl. But to continue growing, the industry must overcome persisting environmental and legislative hurdles. The last parameter established in this study was thromboelastometry. This is a global assessment of haemostatic function for investigation of the interaction of platelets with the coagulation cascade, from the time of initial fibrin formation through to platelet aggregation, clot strengthening, fibrin cross linkage, and on to eventual clot lysis. In our study, we showed that GSE is able to reduce all thromboelastometry parameters ( Table 1), which confirms its strong multiple anticoagulant properties.
