Evil dies tonight," the residents of Haddonfield bellowed in Halloween Kills, but we always knew that wouldn't be the case. Halloween Ends was confirmed at the same time as the sequel and this time, we've been promised that it really is the end. Honest. Say what you will about Halloween Ends, but it’s refreshing that after the filmmakers and the studio behind it played things safe for two films they decided to take the leap and do something drastically different that’s not just entertaining, but supersedes the films that came before it. Most will hate it because it’s not a true closing to a trilogy, but I frankly don’t care. I wasn’t entirely interested in seeing the film after the previous one, but it exceeded my expectations. Regardless, the UHD presentation is top notch, but now that this series is over, let’s get a boxed set together with some substantial bonus materials for a change. Enough with the fluff. David Gordon Green and Danny McBride originally planned to create two Halloween movies but opted for a trilogy after finishing the story. ( Source: Polygon) All of these ruminations on the film’s plot are far more intriguing than having yet another sequel of Michael Myers slicing and dicing his way across Haddonfield. It may not be a satisfying end to a trilogy, but it’s better than the two previous films combined. I can understand fan disappointment with it on a certain level, but in the years to come, I’m of the opinion that like Halloween III: Season of the Witch (which this film is clearly modeled on in some fashion), Halloween Ends will garner more of an appreciation. It’s not a perfect film, but it takes chances that other Halloween sequels simply wouldn’t, and the franchise has a richer tapestry because of it. A Different Threat - As Haddonfield evolves to a new era, we examine how the evil within has also evolved.

The second steelbook has a more muted aesthetic, with a blood splatter coloured in blue. The iconic villain is also wielding a weapon in the artwork. Four years after the events of last year’s Halloween Kills, Laurie is living with her granddaughter Allyson and is finishing writing her memoir. Michael Myers hasn’t been seen since. Laurie, after allowing the specter of Michael to determine and drive her reality for decades, has decided to liberate herself from fear and rage and embrace life. But when a young man, Corey Cunningham, is accused of killing a boy he was babysitting, it ignites a cascade of violence and terror that will force Laurie to finally confront the evil she can’t control, once and for all. The Visions of Terror - See how various production departments came together to achieve the film's unique visual style. The 4K UHD release of Halloween Ends released on December 27 and is loaded with a variety of special features. While it doesn’t include an extended cut of the film like the release of Halloween Kills did, it does include a selection of deleted and extended scenes that give a better idea of what the filmmakers were going for when they made the film. Seeing the crew explain their thought process about how Halloween Ends was made does help somewhat with understanding why the film turned out the way it does, though personally the ending of the film still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

Four years have passed since the events of "Halloween Kills. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her granddaughter Allison Nelson (Andy Matichak) have recovered from the death of their daughter and mother Karen (Judy Greer). They're trying to make a fresh start -- without the constant fear of Michael Myers. The women move into a cozy house, hide their guns in the basement, and even establish a personal life. Lonely Allison falls in love with Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), the guy who accidentally killed a child and became the main object of hatred for the townspeople after the masked maniac disappeared. But Myers doesn't doze off: As the calendar flips to October 31, blood, murder, and horror will once again descend on the small town of Haddonfield in a purple wave. Only this time is sure to be the last. At least, that's what the film's title promises.

While most fans of the Halloween franchise won’t agree with me on this, Halloween Ends is the best Halloween film in a very long time, perhaps even over the 2018 reboot/sequel, which I also enjoyed. For the majority of its running time, it’s not a film about Michael Myers returning to stab a bunch of folks and have it out with Laurie Strode in the end. We’ve seen that several times over, and what’s refreshing about Ends is that it examines the impact of Michael Myers, sidelining him and allowing a new character to not only inhabit his visage, but analyze what would drive somebody to commit such evil. None of it’s cut and dried, nor is it definitive in any way, but watching the tragic trajectory of a character in a world that hates him is well accomplished in this film. Michael Myers popping up in the final minutes to have yet another tussle with Laurie Strode is a tired afterthought, one that the entire marketing campaign was based upon. Whether that was intentionally misleading is another discussion altogether, but I found myself drawn in by the story more than I originally thought I would be. Taking such a drastic left turn this late in the franchise, especially when it’s meant to end this new trilogy of films, is subversively intriguing. Through it all, Jamie Lee Curtis still captivates at Laurie and gets to show off something different to the rage-fuelled Laurie of the previous two movies. She even gets to be happy for one brief moment (a rarity for her throughout the entire Halloween franchise), but when the time comes for her to get violent and deliver a one-liner, she's as good as ever. Instead, Halloween Ends is about something else altogether, and that will prove frustrating for fans. Like Halloween Kills, it expands the mythology and legacy of Michael Myers, putting a new-ish spin on the series. We've seen similar takes before, although if we pointed out the Halloween sequels Ends closely resembles, it could be a spoiler. In his free time, Shane loves going for runs and playing with his 16-year-old beagle Butterscotch. Butters for short, she has been the greatest love of his and inspires him everyday, both creatively and emtionally. On top of that, he's now a huge collector. He loves Funko Pop, McFarlane Toys, and Neca's huge line of horror figures. In the last two years he has been going to a lot of conversations to buy an unhealthy amount of figures. This has also allowed him to meet some of his favorite filmmakers/actors like Mike Flanagan, Matthew Lillard, John Carpenter, Grace Caroline Curry, Steve Burns and Kathryn Newton. She's living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and writing her memoir, choosing to embrace life rather than live in fear. The town of Haddonfield can't move on though and with the boogeyman nowhere to be found, their new pariah is Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell).
