Description

Now, as someone with suicidal tendencies, I actually very much enjoy how Ito utilises it within this manga. Although it won't be for everyone - and Contrived Coincidence: The stone Taburo randomly found lying on the ground and hit, re-energizing the Pii-tan robot turns out to have been the original Pii-tan's soul all along—this is how Pii-tan's robot survived entering Paradise and the Baracchi-bot didn't.

The robot designed after Piitan's image. It is powered by Piitan's own soul inside one of the spirit jewels. Although initially perfect, it becomes suicidal like Piitan after being revived by the spirit energy. It can also be used to enter Piitan's portal and retrieve the spirit jewels from the other world. Ben K: Jumping forward a bit, you went to a vocational school and became a dental technician, correct? Definitely another great, but odd story written by Junji Ito. The reasoning behind my rating is that I expected it to have a different turn, that didn't sprout into pure – but fascinating – science fiction. I found the whole concept a little concerning, to be quite honest.Ito: Yes, I began working as a dental technician in around 1984, and then I began working on manga, so I was doing both for about three years... Ito: 30 years have passed since I began creating manga, so this book was produced as a 30th year commemorative project. Hara-san was in the charge of everything... As we reported earlier this year, Junji Ito is now celebrating 30 years since he made his debut with his first-ever published collection of illustrations in a handsome volume called Igyō Sekai 異形世界 (Grotesque World).

Ito: Yes. The manga I was reading wasn't that scary. On the other hand, TV shows where they went into haunted houses or had a medium who could summon spirits, I thought those were scary. Interesting, but scary. I couldn't go to the bathroom by myself. Especially since the bathroom in my house was at the end of an underground tunnel. When they showed photos with ghostly apparitions on those shows, that was scary. I was scared by things that seemed real to me. As for manga, of course, some of it was scary but for the most part, I found it interesting and intriguing. I loved Kazuo Umezu's drawings. Strange creatures, the grotesque. They fascinated me, so I enjoyed reading his manga. But that bathroom was scary... Three-time Eisner Award winner Junji Ito’s legendary sci-fi thriller is finally available in English! No es lo mejor que he leído de Ito, pero aún así, sus ideas, giros y situaciones alocadas siguen situándolo como el maestro que es.
