Description

Their investigation of the disaster finally leads them to their culprit, scientist Anton Geist. [174] Geist reveals that he introduced a genetic mutation into the water supply causing San Diego's populace to develop gills when submerged in salt-water; he believed that climate change would eventually lead to a global apocalypse, and that he was saving humanity. Lorena beats him for murdering her parents, and Aquaman realizes that he must've been working for someone else. [175] Geist is forced to stay below and help the people he condemned, or else face retribution from the company he works for on the surface. Aquaman becomes the self-declared leader of Sub Diego. [176]

Aquaman first appeared in ‘More Fun Comics’ #73 in 1941 and has never stopped appearing since. The only other superheroes from any publisher to also continuously appear between the Golden and Silver Ages were Batman (and Robin), Superman, and Wonder Woman, who all starred in their own eponymous titles, and Green Arrow, who, like Aquaman, survived by appearing in an anthology title featuring other, non-super strips. And both wound up being written by Steve Skeates. In 1971’s ‘Aquaman’ #56, Skeates ended the issue with Aquaman pressing a button to destroy a satellite that had been shining sunlight on Detroit nonstop, eliminating nighttime and causing algae to grow to monstrous proportions. (The satellite was created by a well-meaning do-gooder because most crime happened at night, so by getting rid of night… see the logic, there?)

Aquababy

Both Aquaman and Marvel’s Namor the Sub-Mariner premiered in the Golden Age of comics and were water-based heroes. Both were the sons of the Queens of their respective versions of Atlantis and both eventually assumed the crown of King.

Life Mastery: Aquababy has a unique ability all to himself, that being able to create his own forms of marine animals. As well as mutate and enlarge fish and the like to gargantuan size. He seemingly had no control over it. During this return, Manta learns that he has a son, and, after decades, readers finally learn that Manta’s real name is David Hyde. Hyde was once a young husband and treasure hunter. When he and his wife were exploring the Bermuda Triangle, they were kidnapped by violent brigands from the sea realm of Xebel. You know else is from Xebel? Mera, that’s who. David Hyde’s wife was pregnant at the time and David, mom to be, and unborn baby were experimented on. What’s with the baby violence? Waterbearer Hand (Formerly): given to him by the Lady of the Lake. The hand was magical in nature and possessed various abilities.

Mera In Peril

Magic: Could utilize unique mysticism to keep a humanized mera from drowning and undo a reality warp by Orm using the remains of his severed hand. [183] [189] Originally in Silver Age continuity Arthur Curry was the son of a lighthouse keeper named Tom Curry and a woman named Atlanna. Tom Curry lived in Amnesty Bay, Maine and raised his son with wife in the local Lighthouse. Arthur started to manifest incredible strength and speed at a young age, as well as the abilities to breathe underwater and talk to fish. On her deathbed, his mother revealed that she was an exiled Queen of Atlantis and he would someday inherit rule of the seven seas. His father gave him an education and taught him to control his powers, eventually allowing him to grow up and become the super-hero Aquaman. [5] Telekinesis: Orin has an undefined level of telekinetic abilities that has been very rarely touched upon. [232] [233]
