Description

The detailed guidance on the drivers’ hours and tachograph rules for drivers of goods vehicles and passenger vehicles was updated on 20 August 2020 to cover the above and other changes to the rules. You can view it at: A vehicle log book is a very detailed document with multiple sections that specify (not a full list) After your shift, you should come up with a tally of how much time you had spent on all the different activities. Write down the total number of hours and make sure that they all add up to one whole day. Then write down the total number of miles you had driven for the whole shift. You must apply for a V5C and tax your vehicle online, by phone, or at a post office. Alternatively, you can tax your car if you have a V11 reminder, a V62 application, or a green ‘new keeper’ slip. You may also need a valid MOT testcertificate. The DVSA will accept attestation forms domestically. Attestation forms will have to cover the relevant periods, including rest, other work, and periods of availability.

An additional 20 hours of log book credit can be earned when you complete the NSW Safer Drivers Course. You can choose to use a digital log book app. It's an easy way to log your hours, learn and achieve your driving goals. You also won't have to worry about losing your log book. When you have a structured lesson with a driving instructor, you may be able to record bonus driving time in your log book. According to federal law, the driver’s log needs to be returned to the motor carrier within thirteen days. Driving with a licensed NSW driving instructor – you can record triple the time of your lesson in your log book. For example, if you have a 1-hour lesson, you can log 3 hours of driving practice.Even worse, some drivers may purposely input inaccurate information on their logs for their personal gain. This may happen to drivers who get paid by the mile. This means that the more miles they cover while driving, the more money they earn. The first exeption is for vehicles used by the police, firefighters and military, and any commercial vehicles exclusively driven off the public road system. This guidance applies to all drivers of vehicles in scope of the EU drivers’ hours rules, including occasional drivers. Approach for recording periods exceeding 1 week of no in-scope driving On digital printout paper, it must be the driver’s name, or driver card or driving licence number. International journeys and attestation forms VIN and engine number - Compare the information on the log book and the number you see on the car. You can find VIN on a metal strip on the B-pillar of the car or underneath the carpet on the driver’s side.

As soon as the confirmation comes in, you (or the current registered owner) will no longer be responsible for the vehicle. What to do if you’ve lost your V5C log book If your daily logbook is not up-to-date, you may receive fines from the FMCSA. Because of the fines associated with failure to record driving hours, all drivers should update their driver’s daily log book every day. Essential Elements of a Driver’s Daily LogMotor carriers are required to keep log book records for six months. Some carriers may choose to hold records for longer periods, although they are not required by law to do so. Not maintaining an accurate log can result in severe consequences like the driver’s license getting suspended or other penalties. If you want to use the log properly, follow these steps: If you spot any mistakes or some of the details change, you need to inform the DVLA. It actually makes the selling process and taxation safer and more reliable for all parties. What if you have a ringer on your hands? Think about this: Of the third of a million cars stolen each year in the UK, 120,000 are never recovered. So, be responsible and keep your car documentation updated. Some drivers aren’t as honest as the others. When they forget to fill out their log, they choose to falsify the information so they won’t get into trouble. This is a big no-no. You will get into a lot more trouble when you falsify documents instead of admitting that you forgot to fill the logbook at a certain date.
