The collaboration resulted in stunning arrangements for “Layla,” “White Room,” “Bell Bottom Blues,” “I Shot The Sheriff,” “Lay Down Sally,” and the previously unreleased 30-minute epic, “Concerto For Guitar.” Kamen composed the piece especially for Clapton, which made its live debut at the Albert Hall. Clapton reportedly was not satisfied with these recordings, and delayed the release of a CD until the following year. Another five concerts were recorded in 1991, this time the penultimate nights with the first three ensembles, and the two orchestra nights before the final night. The four-piece band recording on 24 January 1990 produced the versions of "Running on Faith", "White Room" and "Sunshine of Your Love" that were included on the CD and DVD. "Worried Life Blues", "Watch Yourself" and "Have You Ever Loved a Woman" were from the blues band recording on 5 February 1990. "Bell Bottom Blues" and "Hard Times" with the orchestra were taken from the first of those sessions, on 9 February 1990. No songs were used from the nine-piece band recording on 1 February 1990, or the second orchestral recording on 10 February 1990. The double album that was released (on vinyl, CD and cassette) covered a fraction of what was filmed and recorded but 34 years later that is about to change with a total of eight physical editions lead by 6CD+ 3blu-ray and 8LP+3blu-ray super deluxe edition box sets!

When all shows had been performed, Eric together with producer Russ Titelman, decided that the playing did not reach the standard of a Clapton release. All of them very well done, and Eric throws in All audio has been restored, remixed and remastered and the three types of concert have been effectively formatted into three double albums which all fit on two CDs or three vinyl records (the exception is the Blues concert which fits on 2LPs). The two super deluxe edition box sets bring all of these together, which is why the CD version has six CDs and the vinyl edition has eight LPs. All the audio and video included in THE DEFINITIVE 24 NIGHTS was painstakingly restored and upgraded by Clapton’s team of Simon Climie (audio production and mixing), producer Peter Worsley ( Slowhand at 70 and The Lady In The Balcony), and director David Barnard ( The Lady In The Balcony).
