Paulo Lemos Horta, Marvellous Thieves: Secret Authors of the Arabian Nights (Cambridge, MA: Harvard University Press, 2017), pp. All persons aged 16 or under must be accompanied by an adult and may not sit on their own within the auditorium. As part of his work on the first critical edition of the Nights, Iraq's Muhsin Mahdi has shown [4] that both these manuscripts are "back-translations" of Galland's text into Arabic.

Join the charming street rat Aladdin, the determined Princess Jasmine and the hilarious Genie (voiced by the unforgettable Robin Williams) on a wondrous journey filled with action, laughter and Academy Award®-winning music (1992: Best Original Song, Best Original Score). The genie also tells Aladdin that he’s been tricked by a magician, and Aladdin kills the magician, having pretended to have a headache and claimed that he needs the holy woman’s healing hands on him. Aladdin features as one of five stories in the Hallmark Entertainment TV miniseries Arabian Nights in 2000, featuring Jason Scott Lee as Aladdin and John Leguizamo as both of the genies. It stars Mena Massoud as the title character, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar, and Will Smith as the Genie.

Alladin and the Wonderful Lamp is a 1931 Indian silent film, adapted from the folktale, by Jal Ariah. The Nobility of Faith" by Jonathan Clements, in the anthology Doctor Who Short Trips: The Ghosts of Christmas (2007), is a retelling of the Aladdin story in the style of the Arabian Nights, but featuring the Doctor in the role of the genie. When the princess passes this on to Aladdin, he rubs the lamp and summons the genie, who flies into a rage when Aladdin requests the egg, because the Roc is the mistress who rules over the genie. However, the vizier – the sultan’s chief adviser – is not happy with this plan, because he had planned for his own son to marry Lady Badar al-Budur.

The story was set in "Ancient China", but otherwise had a tenuous connection with the original plot. We’ve previously discussed how none of the three most famous stories from the collection we know as the Arabian Nights or 1,001 Nights was originally part of the sequence: the story of ‘ Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves’ and the tale of Aladdin and the magic lamp were both added to the much older collection of tales in the early eighteenth century, by a French translator named Antoine Galland, who claimed he had heard the story from a Syrian storyteller named Hanna Diyab. In the United Kingdom, the story of Aladdin was dramatised in 1788 by John O'Keefe for the Theatre Royal, Covent Garden. They say a picture can say a thousand words – there’s no debate that thousands have been written about the Aladdin Sane album cover and it’s an honour fifty years after its release to be able to share previously unpublished images from the session. Since its appearance in The One Thousand and One Nights, the tale has integrated into oral tradition.
