Its taste was also better than Tetley’s, with more body and richness to it. So if you like a strong tea like me, this is definitely a contender.

Bethan Shufflebotham from the Manchester Evening News said: "I feel like a cup of tea is sacred to us Brits. It's not just a hot beverage to caffeine-fuel us through the working day, but a comfort, too. Feeling sad? Put the kettle on. Catching up with friends? Put the kettle on. Just had a big tea and need to let it settle? Put the kettle on.The price of teabags have soared during the cost of living crisis. You might have even been considering cheating on your favourite tea brand in favour of a cheaper option during your weekly shop. Reporter Niamh Kirk from Mirror Online, said it made her think - does the brand really matter that much, or do we still get that same warming feeling inside no matter where it's from? A strong contender that is up there with any of the other big hitters such PG Tips, Tesco, and Twinings, the well-known brand of Tetley made for an enjoyable drink that more than lived up to its popular reputation. Fruit teas are all well and good - and I do drink those too because otherwise I'd go through life looking like an over-caffeinated meerkat - but for a day-to-day cuppa that gives a burst of energy, a bit of warmth and a welcome break from my desk there is nothing better than PG Tips Extra Strong. It's basically the hot beverage equivalent of a bear hug in a mug.

I mean how can you have, “By appointment to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” on the box and not deliver on the flavour. Prolific tea drinkers will argue until they're blue in the face that the brand that they drink is the best, and that's exactly what some of our writers have been doing this week. Here are our arguments for which tea brand is the best: PG Tips Extra Strong Founded in 1837 by the Tetley brothers, the tea was a strong and rich flavour and gave an appetising colour as well as a smooth texture, proving why it has been consistent in its place at the top of the British tea market for so many years. When it comes to the battle of the supermarket brews, M&S was on top, followed by Tesco. I would happily buy either of these teas again, whereas the Lidl own brand I wouldn't reach for again in a hurry. I still don't think I can give up on my all time champion Yorkshire Tea, although there are now some fierce contenders in the running.

It’s probably the only way my gran convinced my parents it was acceptable to drink tea at such a young age.

READ MORE: I pitted five chocolate digestives from Aldi, Asda, Morrison's, Sainsbuy's and M&S against McVitie's Overall, while each of the teas on offer had their good points and bad, for me due to the taste and cost my favourite was the Tesco Original which was closely followed by PG tips and Tetley. Last but not least was my store cupboard staple, my go-to choice, my steaming hot friend who makes me feel more alive in the morning. The teabag felt rather flimsy, so I was worried about squeezing it too hard and ruining my brew with an explosion of tea particles. A little pricier than the first two, it was a slight improvement, not no Yorkshire Tea.PG’s flavour is strong and well-rounded, much like Yorkshire, but I think Yorkshire might have pipped it to the post in terms of strength on this occasion. The box was massive which gave me high hopes, but it turned out to be quantity over quality here. The only time I'd say yes to this sad brew would be at a footie game or camping, just to warm up my hands.

I remember those days as if it was yesterday - young, foolish, and no adult responsibilities or existential crises under my belt. The more I tasted, the blander the tea became, as if it was actually losing flavour the more I drank - which I didn’t even know was possible. I was really pleasantly surprised by this one, it had a good taste of tea and didn't need too much brew time unlike some of the others. The taste continued to worsen, so much so it ended up tasting like dishwater, which was not what I expected. It's the priciest supermarket tea I tried, but did taste the best, and still cheaper than a box of Yorkshire! Tea will forever be my first choice hot drink, whether I’m at home, in a coffee shop (sue me), or making a cuppa in the office. The pyramid-shaped bag allows room for the tea to breathe and brew; swirling around the water and squeezing all of its tea-y goodness out.
