Designed for classroom teachers, librarians, art teachers, and others interested in engaging students in the visual arts and the art of the book, the Museum's professional development programs emphasize teaching through the arts and encourage critical and creative thinking.

We discussed SYMMETRY- mirror images- same on both sides and looked at some pictures of butterflies and noticed the symmetrical designs. In the past, I used white tissue paper just like Eric Carle but it tore so easily and was difficult for some students. More than 10,000 of his original illustrations are in the collection of the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, Massachusetts. Carle then took a piece of red tissue paper for the head and placed the drawing on top of the piece of tissue paper. As Eric Carle later told the story, he was fiddling with a hole punch when he got an idea for a book about a book worm. Essays and critical appreciations of his works, and color photographs showing how the artist creates his unique collage illustrations add to the interest and usefulness of this book.He worked as an art director at an advertising agency early in his career but soon began working as an illustrator, publishing "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?
