Description

The T7V has even deeper low-end and provides more punch for bigger rooms. However, the T5V is slightly tighter in the midrange and more suitable for true near-field monitoring. Looking for Hi-Fi speakers in the living room? Get the T7V! looking for really transparent monitors in a small studio? Get the T5V! Truly the best all-round monitors for the price! Designed to meet the demands of small-room producers and sound engineers limited on space, the Adam Audio T5V utilises waveguide technology and U-ART Ribbon tweeters taken from their critically acclaimed S-Series monitors.

The highs are just silky. Their frequency response is stellar for the money and the clarity they provide is just unheard for this price range. A beveled cabinet with a rear-firing bass reflex port and a small footprint allows placement anywhere in your room, no matter how small, and contains built-in DSP-controlled driver crossovers and equalization as well as multi-way analog connections. Powered with a 50 W Class D amplifier for the woofer and a 20 W Class D amplifier for the U-ART tweeter, the T5V produces SPLs of up to 106 dB per pair. As ever, the proof is in the listening, and the T5V sounded great in every room I tried them in. The T5V sounded consistently good in my acoustically treated office, in an echoey, wooden-floored living room, and they were quite happy shoved on a desk, bookshelf or on speaker stands, too – something you can’t always take for granted with more traditionally designed hi-fi speakers. The T5V’s design also produces a pleasingly wide sweet spot – the location where you need to sit to get the best stereo image – so you can move around more freely before the stereo image completely collapses towards one speaker or the other. Whether you’re using the T5V in a studio where you might be scooting left and right, or just perched on the end of your sofa, that leeway is very welcome indeed. I can say with confidence that the Adams are the best in this price range. They clearly sound as they are "upper shelf" equipment. With its 5” woofer the bass-frequency response of the T5V extends to 45 Hz. The new U-ART tweeter, a breakthrough solution for use in high-resolution recording and mixing on a budget, goes up to 25 kHz and is mated to a precision waveguide with the same dispersion-control attributes as the High Frequency Propagation (HPS) waveguide used in ADAM Audio’s flagship S Series monitors. The waveguide’s highly uniform dispersion of high frequencies provides an incredibly wide sweet spot that frees you from being glued to a rigid mix position while working. That said, the overall lows of the monitors are extremely well defined not muddy and punchy. Now for the sub to low region of the spectrum they are so so full for the size of the speaker. I like bass but i like clean bass. And they deliver. I think that there is no need for sub except for the one's that may use it for movies. Definitely not for mixing. I had a sub in my previous setup and when i heard them i took it off. Also the +2db makes up for those who may want a little more bass.

At this price point, there are some concerns about tweeter hiss being audible – the basic internal Class-D amplifiers in this calibre of speaker often produce a hiss, even when nothing is playing – but the T5V are inoffensive in this regard. You can hear a hiss once you get up close to the speaker, but it’s not audible once you move around a metre away, and it’s completely inaudible once music is playing at even a low volume.

Adam Audio’s T5V active monitors deliver crisp, balanced sound and deep bass in a keenly priced package

Lightweight and Portable As for cons, is that they have the power button on the rear. But i have plugged them both on a power tile with power button so i can power them on and off easily. So not that much of a problem. The only logistical issue worth mentioning, particularly if you’re considering the T5V for home use, is one that applies to the vast majority of studio monitors: the separate gain controls on the rear of each speaker aren’t intended for use like a volume control on a hi-fi amplifier. Instead, you set the T5V’s gain controls to a level that produces an acceptable maximum volume when your laptop, PC or whichever device is connected has its volume set to 100%, then control the volume solely via the connected device. Thefrequency response of the Adam T5v extends all the way between 45Hz and 25kHz for an unrivallednearfield response, ideal for mid-level mixing and music creation before the mastering stage. Weighing in at only 5.7kg, the Adam T5Vs are equally well suited on the move. If you frequent multiple studio locations or travel aboard, there's no reason why you can't use these as part of a mobile production setup without compromising clarity and quality. Excellent acoustic characteristics, small dimensions and an outstanding cost/performance ratio make this studio monitor perfectly suited for use in small control rooms in music, video and broadcast production too. Sub Ready

The T5V’s cabinet houses a 5in woofer alongside Adam Audio’s unusual-looking U-ART 1.9in ribbon tweeter, and there are dedicated internal Class-D amplifiers for each driver, with 20W driving the tweeter and 50W for the woofer. Each speaker is powered by a single IEC kettle lead. Excellent acoustic characteristics, small dimensions and an outstanding cost/performance ratio make this studio monitor perfectly suited for use in small control rooms in music, video and broadcast production. The studio monitor designation might suggest that these are strictly for use in the studio but they’re far more versatile than that. The 179 x 297 x 298mm (WDH) dimensions aren’t teeny tiny – the cabinets are a little deeper than you might expect given the relatively dainty front profile – but the T5V remain compact enough for desktop use with a PC or laptop, narrow enough to squeeze onto a bookshelf, and don’t look out of place alongside a TV for home cinema duties. If you need to hear more bottom end, the T5V is compatible withADAM's Sub7 and Sub8 subwoofers. Specifications
