There is way too much sibilance on this release - and that really isn’t acceptable, given there are adequate methods to minimise inherent faults in the original master.

Beautiful art with a wonderful story and endorsed by David Bowie whom, it’s safe to say, knew a thing or 2 about art. This by far beats out any Madonna or Lady Gaga album (I'm a fan of Madonna's music, not her, but I am a 17-year-old dedicated Little Monster of Queen Gaga! Waking the Witch' is bloody amazing, I love the beginning dialogues, and the last minute and a half! To the Nattering Naybobs of Negativity, I say there are those who will happily snap up these limited edition art pieces, and there are those who won’t. We have a regular newsletter with the week’s new releases that goes out every Thursday or Friday too.

Her style and material has always been unique, eccentric even, but Hounds of Love is probably the strongest mix of controlled musical experimentation and lyrical expression. This was an artist whose musical and studio prowess, eccentric conceptions, artful persona and modern dance skills became increasingly honed and interdependent with each album, and by the 1980s, she had achieved considerable ascendency and chart success in the UK. As was promised earlier this year when Kate moved her distribution to The State51 Conspiracy, special presentations of Hounds of Love have just been announced on Kate’s newly re-launched official Fish People site. The 80s production sharp edges on drums etc have presumably been smoothed down a bit in remastering, more in keeping with the production of her later albums.

On a whim note, I found it surprising that the 'Running Up That Hill' music video never won any prestigious music video award! There’s a special emotional connection that happens between the possessor of an album, the music and the artwork, when it exists in the real world. Disjunctive, idiosyncratic and so very, very inventive, Kate Bush's 1985 magnum opus, "Hounds of Love", was the intentionally streamlined yet defiant response to complaints regarding her efficiency in the studio and detractors of the lyrical and structural esotericism inherent in her work.It is in these moments that Bush's essential qualities, not to mention her genius, are truly unfettered, unveiled and realized, which goes some way to explaining the album's enduring popularity. The Dreaming will be the second in the series of illustrated editions, also illustrated by Timorous Beasties. The Baskerville Edition of Hounds of Love is intended to be the first in a series of illustrated editions of Kate’s albums.

Esta remasterización es en 180 g y contieen un insert con las letras de las canciones y algunos datos técnicos de la grabación. The Baskerville Edition is accompanied by a beautiful new Cloudbusting-themed video which depicts a young Peter Reich (actor Gus Turner) receiving the record and telling his story. I’ve adored Kate for 45 years – and I love “Timorous Beasties” too – and the issue does look beautiful but I really cannot justify that kind of money on yet another version of “Hounds Of Love. The first 5 tracks were 4 singles (albeit some slightly remixed) and the quirky, by totally essential, Mother Stands For Comfort. There are no bonus tracks or anything like that and indeed this edition uses the same 2018 remaster as the recently announced black and coloured vinyl reissues. It's her most accessible pop album but the dreaming is her best art and wuthering heights is one of the best songs of all time. Side B "The Ninth Wave" is a concept piece with all tracks segued into each other to appear as 'continuous audio'. The boxes, which can each be wall mounted, also feature flashing LED lights powered by two AAA batteries.

In a second accompanying video, Kate explains via on-screen text, that she was inspired to expand upon a piece of work she first created for a special War Child charity auction in 1994 (see our news item here on the original artworks). To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. So overall the second half of this album (the concept side) is beautiful, but the first 5 tracks don't sit as well together as they do on much earlier CDs, including the late 90s remaster (which had the album mix plus several bonuses). I know that some Bush fans will argue Kate isn't pop, and is more alternative/art-rock/avant-garde and whatnot.

Greatly emboldened by the advances of the digital age, the ever-experimental Bush went one further, building a home studio and developing her latest new material to her satisfaction, subsequently dividing the end product into two distinctive sections.
