Description

I can't help but feel AMD could have done so much better here, but it looks as though the Radeon brand is destined to flounder. That's a real shame given how competitive they became at the high-end this generation, though even there they've failed to capitalize due to supply woes. Shopping Shortcuts: For most models performance is about the same, for example, the GTX 1650 averaged 65 fps in our Assassin's Creed Valhalla test and we're looking at 67 fps on average in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, there's also a 2 fps difference for the 6500 XT when using PCIe 4.0.

That x4 connection is the equivalent of a x8 PCIe 3.0 slot, which is more than enough bandwidth for 1080p gaming. Cutting that in half, however, might be more of an issue. So, while this might be an affordable upgrade (at MSRP) for a new GPU, it may necessitate a complete PC platform change to get anything like a decent level of performance out of it. Ridley, Jacob (May 11, 2021). "Manufacturer hints at 8GB VRAM for AMD's unreleased RX 6600-series". PC Gamer . Retrieved July 15, 2021. As an aside, RDR2 strictly prevents you from selecting settings that exceed a card's VRAM, but you can edit the config file to try and get around that. I was able to force 1080p "ultra" and 1440p "ultra" to run, though 1440p resulted in periodic graphical corruption. 4K ultra is too much, however, and just crashes to desktop. Anyway, I need some meaningful number to avoid skewing the overall results — not having a low score present can increase the calculated average, but putting in a "0" result can go too far the other direction.AMD Radeon RX 6000S Series mobile graphics offer an ideal blend of performance and efficiency for slim form factors, enabling gaming laptop designs that can weigh less than 4.5 lbs. and can be up to 20 percent thinner than existing devices 5. The high-end AMD Radeon RX 6800S GPU at 100W is projected to offer the ultimate in thin-and-light 1080p gaming by delivering up to 100 FPS in select titles with max settings 6, and is projected to offer 10 percent higher performance on average across select titles at 1080p than the competition 7. The RTX 3050 also feels the weight of ray tracing, and to be sure, could only really handle them in my testing with the aid of DLSS upscaling. But that’s something else the RX 6500 XT doesn’t have, and even if FSR was supported in Metro Exodus (it isn’t), its simple spatial upscaling rarely looks as sharp and clean as the AI-powered DLSS. Radeon Super Resolution is an alternative, though it doesn’t really do anything that Nvidia Image Scaling doesn’t for GeForce cards. And although FSR is supported in some games that don’t also support DLSS, that’s not even a reason to choose an AMD graphics card, because FSR works fine on Nvidia hardware too. WhyCry (July 29, 2021). "AMD announces Radeon RX 6600 XT at 379USD". VideoCardz . Retrieved July 30, 2021. As of March 2022, Radeon Super Resolution (RSR) is compatible with Radeon RX 5000 series graphics and newer and works with games that support exclusive full-screen mode. AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 22.3.1 or newer is required. For additional information, visit www.amd.com/rsr. GD-197. On May 31, 2021, AMD announced the RX 6000M series of GPUs designed for laptops, [13] [14] including the RX 6600M, RX 6700M, and RX 6800M. They became available on June 1. [13]

Were you aware you can run the most popular esports titles listed above on 2k resolution paired with a 165 Hz monitor comfortably with a decade old 2GB GPU such as GTX770? Apparently not. Though Nvidia and AMD trading blows in the GPU space is nothing new, it's been a long time since the battle ended so lopsided. In the war between the two manufacturers' latest releases, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 and AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT, respectively, Nvidia tops its rival GPU on almost every front. Actual z-height may vary based on laptop configuration. RM-027.

AMD Radeon RX 6000M Series and Radeon RX 6000S Series Mobile Graphics The RX 6500 XT put Metro Exodus in similar straits, averaging 39fps on Ultra settings and needing a drop down to Normal for 70fps. Trying to run Ultra settings at 1440p also produced the GPU’s worst showing yet, sputtering out just 10fps: a fraction of the RTX 3050’s 37fps. Next to struggle was Watch Dogs Legion, which at 1080p could manage 59fps on High, but only 30fps on Ultra. Make that 22fps for Ultra on 1440p, as well. Maybe just maybe there was something worse along the way. Stuff like the DDR4 version of the GT 1030 could be considered worse, but that was because it was a horrible anti-consumer tactic by Nvidia. But as far as new product releases go, I can't think of anything worse. We've collected 100% fresh benchmark data for this review. We've spent the last few weeks updating our mid-range GPU results and much of the testing has been done using medium quality settings, or settings that make sense for a given title. Please note the 6500 XT has been tested using both PCIe 4.0 and PCIe 3.0 on the same motherboard, toggling between the two specifications in the BIOS. The series is designed to compete with Nvidia's GeForce 30 series, and does compete with Intel's Arc Alchemist series of cards.
