The replacement of a systemic corticosteroid with a topical corticosteroid can be accompanied by signs of adrenal insufficiency, and in addition some patients may experience symptoms of corticosteroid withdrawal, e.g., joint and/or muscular pain, fatigue, weakness, nausea, vomiting, hypotension, lassitude, and depression. Patients previously treated for prolonged periods with systemic corticosteroids should be weaned off slowly when transferred to topical corticosteroids and carefully monitored for acute adrenal insufficiency in response to stress. In those patients who have asthma or other clinical conditions requiring long-term systemic corticosteroid treatment, too rapid a decrease in systemic corticosteroids may cause a severe exacerbation of their symptoms. Interactions with Strong Cytochrome P450 3A4 Inhibitors This medication is for use in the nose, usually 1 or 2 sprays in each nostril once or twice a day or as directed by your doctor. Avoid spraying this medication in your eyes. Gently blow your nose before using this drug. Gently shake the container before each use. Follow the instructions to properly prime the spray pump if you are using it for the first time or if you have not used it for 2 or more days. Follow the instructions to clean/prime the spray pump if you have not used it for 14 or more days.

Instances of nasal septum perforation have been reported following the intranasal application of corticosteroids, including budesonide [ see Adverse Reactions (6.2)].A one-year placebo-controlled clinical growth study was conducted in 229 pediatric patients (ages 4 through 8 years of age) to assess the effect of RHINOCORT AQUA (budesonide) Nasal Spray (single-daily dose of 64 mcg, the recommended starting dose for children ages 6 years and above) on growth velocity. From a population of 141 patients receiving RHINOCORT AQUA (budesonide) Nasal Spray and 67 receiving placebo, the point estimate for growth velocity with RHINOCORT AQUA (budesonide) Nasal Spray was 0.25 cm/year lower than that noted with placebo (95% confidence interval ranging from 0.59 cm/year lower than placebo to 0.08 cm/year higher than placebo).

Corticosteroids have a wide range of inhibitory activities against multiple cell types (e.g., mast cells, eosinophils, neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes) and mediators (e.g., histamine, eicosanoids, leukotrienes, and cytokines) involved in allergic and non-allergic-mediated inflammation. These anti-inflammatory actions of corticosteroids may contribute to their efficacy in seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Pharmacodynamics

If you take too many doses of Rhinocort Aqua, talk to your doctor or pharmacist straight away. If you forget to use Rhinocort Aqua It's fine to use Rhinocort aqua nasal spray alongside antihistamine tablets or eye drops to treat your hay fever if you need to.Any other corticosteroid medicines, including asthma inhalers, eczema cream, injections, tablets, nasal sprays, eye or nose drops Nose/throat dryness or irritation, cough, sneezing, nosebleeds, or unpleasant taste/smell may occur. If any of these side effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
