Description

This was a tough one to choose as all four lenses do come with great build quality and all feel extraordinarily strong and sturdy. But I did find that out of all four lenses the Sigma just tipped the scales. The aesthetics of the Sigma and exceptional build from them make it the one I would recommend if you are wanting a nice looking and strong lens for your Sony Alpha. The Samyang 24-70mm F/2.8 AF Sony FE is a versatile and universal zoom lens. The lens is suitable for taking photos and videos. For video recording, several functions have been optimized and added to this lens. Despite having the largest minimum focal distance, I did find when wanting to get in closer that I was only a little bit further away when compared to the others. And that I was still able to get great shots even when I was closer in. The AR coating (anti-reflective) on the lens helped reduce the stray reflections hitting the lens when shooting in natural light and gave a good contrast. The Samyang AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE lens has a metal lens mount. It accepts 82mm filters via metal threads. Being the second heaviest lens at 886g, you do feel this one when carrying it. The weight was a bit more front-heavy when on my A7R IV, which I put down to the longer length of the lens at 136mm. However, it wasn’t uncomfortable when on the camera and over the shoulder.

Hands on: Samyang AF 24-70mm f/2.8 FE review

Multi-Coatings have been applied to minimise aberration and unnecessary light dispersion. Combined with Sony's full-frame image sensor, this zoom lens delivers superior sharpness and contrast in all areas of the image. The lens utilizes a Linear STM (Stepping Motor) for smooth auto-focusing, and it's very quiet in operation making it well-suited to shooting video.La résistance au flare est moyenne mais typique d’un 24-70mm , comme le Sigma 24-70 F2.8, mais moins bonne qu’un Sigma 28-70 F2.8 An interesting aspect of the optical design is that it’s parfocal, which means that the set focus doesn’t change during zooming. It’s achieved via a complex internal arrangement that moves the focusing group to compensate for the changes in image size happening with zoom, but maintains a manually- set focus point. It’s a feature for videographers – and usually only found on much pricier cinema lenses – and Samyang is very much targeting this lens at these users. The Samyang AF 24-70mm F2.8 FE is equipped with a Custom Switch on the side of the lens barrel. Essentially you can use it to program the focus ring, with Mode 1 setting it to Manual Focus and Mode 2 turning it into an Aperture Control ring. Samyang are also promising that more functions will be added in a future firmware update. We didn't experience too much "hunting", either in good or bad light, with the lens accurately focusing most, but not all of the time. It's also a quiet performer, which makes this lens equally well-suited to both video recording and more candid stills shooting.

The Samyang 24-70mm F2.8 (900 euros) is globally a very good lens at a reasonable price but the competition is very tough and offer excellent options that are all better in one or several areas compared to the Samyang 24-70 F2.8 Linear STM stepping motor for fast, quiet and accurate focusing with a close focus distance of just 35cm Bon résultats en portrait et photographie de rue : piqué, beau rendu des couleurs, très naturel, et flou d’arrière plan douxLe mode custom permet de transformer la bague de mise au point en une bague d’ouverture sans clics très pratique en vidéo

Samyang 24-70mm f/2.8 AF Zoom Lens How Good Is the Affordable Samyang 24-70mm f/2.8 AF Zoom Lens

Globally the Samyang 24-70 will be one of the best for video work but compared to the others it delivers less good performance for photography in term of sharpness, bokeh balls shape , ease of use (size and weight). While Samyang now has a fairly extensive line of dedicated cinema lenses, these are all primes, so obviously the new zoom is a first for everybody and it’s been designed to have appeal for both applications. Historically, it was cinematographers discovering the value aspect of Samyang’s manual focus primes for photography – and talking about them – that started to get the brand more widely known. Similarly, Samyang made a number of mid-range AF zoom lenses in the 1980s for Nikon, Pentax and Minolta 35mm SLRs (the latter, of course, becoming Sony’s A mount). Performance Resistance to flare is correct for a 24-70 like the Sigma 24-70 F2.8 but less good than the Sigma 28-70The main disadvantage I found with the AF 24-70mm was the weight. Compared to the other three lenses, coming in at 1027g, it was by far the heaviest out of the four. This did mean after longer periods of use I started to feel the weight in my arms, especially when moving the camera and lens up to my eye for a shot through the A7’s EVF. This may not be an issue for other users, especially if using a tripod for landscapes or for video, but I would suggest thinking it over if wanting to use it for the likes of handheld or street photography. The minimum focus distance of 0.35m is slightly shorter than in the Sony lens, enabling a slightly larger magnification ratio of 0.27x at the long end of the zoom range. A ‘Custom’ dual-mode switch is featured, which is nominally used for switching between autofocus and manual focus, but can be customized to set other functions like aperture control. Samyang says that additional functions will be added in the future, through firmware updates.
