Clarice Cliff (Phoebe Dynevor) is a vivacious young factory worker in the industrial British midlands of the 1920s. Her creativity and ambition drives her to move factory to factory, despite the financial impact on the household she shares with her widowed mother Ann (Kerry Fox) and youngest sister Dot (Darci Shaw). Bursting at the seams with ideas for colors and shapes, Clarice takes more and more dangerous risks -- but she manages to stay one step ahead of the workhouse and impress the eccentric factory owner Colley Shorter (Matthew Goode) on the way with her talent and innovation. Apprenticed to renowned Art Designer Fred Ridgeway (David Morrissey) and with support from Colley and other women in the factory, Clarice fights her way through to design the unprecedented Art Deco 'Bizarre' range. In the middle of the Great Depression, she ensures the factory's survival and her future as one of the greatest Art Deco designers and a household name.Darci Shaw says: "Dot has her own identity as a Paintress at Wilkinsons, she does contrast Clarice in the sense of what they want their lives to be. Dot wants to have a family, to be settled and married whereas Clarice has these wild dreams of designing and success that neither Dot nor Ann can really understand. When I first walked on set and saw their bedroom I remember thinking how well it represents their relationship; Dot’s side is tidy, pretty, just so, and Clarice’s side is bursting with colour and ambition." Empire has been digging, and we've exhumed these 25 movies never officially pressed onto a small, silver disc... to date. If you feel inclined, suggest your own lost treasures in the comments. It's a wonderful opportunity to promote how ground-breaking Clarice Cliff was in her day, and encourage local children to follow in her footsteps in breaking down barriers. It's very disappointing that so few local children will get to see The Colour Room at the cinema, but we are grateful to the Mitchell Arts Centre for showing it."

The Colour Room shows how Clarice Cliff is a vivacious young factory worker in the industrial midlands of 1920s Britain. Starring: Vincent Spano, Chris Cooper, Angela Bassett, Gina Gershon, John Sayles, David Stathairn, Lawrence Tierney Elliott, Louise (2 April 2021). "First pictures from Gladstone Pottery as filming starts for The Colour Room starring Bridgerton actress Phoebe Dynevor". Stoke Sentinel . Retrieved 11 April 2021. What’s the story? Teenage post-high-school hi-jinks in an apartment complex in the LA suburbs. Cameron Crowe wrote it before he made his directorial debut with Say Anything..., and it’s often compared to the also Crowe-written Fast Times At Ridgemont High. Some have even called it a pseudo-sequel, although it isn’t officially that.

Matthew says: "I didn’t know a huge amount about the story behind The Colour Room. I knew the name as I think my Aunty Eileen, who was my mother’s stepmother, had a teapot in her kitchen that was by Clarice. I remember the pattern but I didn’t know how influential she’d been on potteries and indeed in design, so it was quite thrilling to be a part of this. We’re very much in a time, thankfully, that things are changing for women in general: we suddenly have this poster child from the past. It’s very inspiring. I didn’t know anything about Colley Shorter, obviously, but that’s quite nice that he’s behind the scenes - it gives me slightly more leeway with how we wanted to go about portraying him. So, there were two brothers, Guy and Colley and they had taken over their father’s business, which was Wilkinson’s, and they owned several factories. They had come to prominence, and their father was sort of a self-made man in the mid-nineteenth century when he started [the factory] and the boys took it over with varying degrees of success. Colley, my character, he’s about being bold and wants to take chances and risks because that’s how you grow a company, and Guy wasn’t, so they were at loggerheads. And when we join the film, a lot of factories are being closed down, the potteries are in trouble, and if you’re losing money, surely, you should concentrate on the old stuff that you know makes money. What’s the story? ***A prolific director of shorts for Saturday Night Live, Tom Schiller moved into features here, bringing several SNL alumni with him. It has still never been released and Schiller never directed a feature again. It revolves around Galligan living in a dystopian New York controlled by the Port Authority. He stumbles upon an underground network of tramps who secretly rule the world, and gets sent on a mission to the Moon in a bus with Bill Murray. John Belushi would also have been a part of the madness, but tragically died just a few weeks before filming started. Principal photography took place on location in Stoke-on-Trent and Birmingham. Here’s what we know so far about the one-off biopic The Colour Room on Sky Cinema… 'The Colour Room' release date... Despite resistance, Clarice Cliff persisted in suggesting her ideas while working on the factory floor in potteries. Instead of mastering one skill to improve her earnings, she started one apprenticeship as an enameller, and then another as a lithographer at another factory to learn different aspects of production. Although supporting her widowed mother and her sister, she risked destitution by changing jobs so often. All of the potteries still had Victorian perceptions of what women wanted in terms of design. What’s the Story? In between Thief and Manhunter, Michael Mann directed this dreamlike historical-horror oddity. During World War II, German soldiers unearth a dangerously powerful entity in a castle in Romania (specifically pegged as a Golem in the film but not in F. Paul Wilson’s original novel), who is understandably furious about the Nazis’ treatment of the Jews. Mysterious, sorcerous stranger Glaeken Trismegestus (Scott Glenn) arrives to save the day with a light show.

Sky announces start of production in England for The Colour Room, a Sky Original". Sky. 17 March 2021 . Retrieved 11 April 2021. What’s the story? Schrader (Paul’s older brother) wrote the screenplay for Kiss Of The Spider Woman, based on the novel by Manuel Puig. Six years later, he was “inspired” by Puig to write and direct this steamy melodrama. May plays a French trophy wife in 1920s Argentina. She runs away, but gets dragged into an obsessive relationship with gangster/pimp Cholo (D’Onofrio), centred mostly on dancing, with an occasional bit of violence for that extra frisson. Sometimes they dance with knives. One time they dance in an abattoir. One time she’s naked – hence the name. There’s a sex scene where May is lying on fifty shades of broken glass. It’s intense. What’s the story? A documentary about The Beatles, which, as it turned out, chronicled more-or-less their last days – although a lot of the footage of the band falling out with each other was cut to make to make the film less abrasive. The final product follows the band recording at Apple Corps Headquarters and staging an impromptu gig on the studio roof. The Sky Originals film is not being shown by the Vue, Odeon or Cineworld chains, which have cinemas in Newcastle and Hanley, and is instead being screened in Showcase cinemas. Initially, there’s little about The Colour Room to catch the eye. The story of 1920’s ceramic artist, Clarice Cliff, who turned out to be something of a trailblazer and, for those who know next to nothing about the industry (probably most of us), the title doesn’t give much of a clue. But the one thing that will catch your attention is the name at the top of the cast list. Phoebe Dynevor, from the huge Netflix hit, Bridgerton. And she makes this, her first feature film, very much her own.The film, which stars Bridgerton's Phoebe Dynevor as Tunstall-born ceramic artist Clarice Cliff, premieres on digital services Sky Cinema and Now TV at 8pm tonight for viewers at home. David Morrissey ( The Singapore Grip) is Clarice’s mentor, the renowned art designer Fred Ridgeway, while Darci Shaw (the young Judy Garland in Judy) is her sister, Dot, and Kerry Fox ( Shallow Grave, Last Tango in Halifax) as her widowed mother, Ann. Also look out for Luke Norris ( Dr Dwight Enys in Poldark), among the cast.
