The higher tier builds in both Hydro and Carbon frame materials are equipped with Orbea’s new sister wheel brand, OQUO, which allows Orbea to tightly control the stiffness-flex balance of their premium machines. Orbea’s comprehensive customization program MyO allows customers to personalize their Wild with different spec choices, including selecting the battery size and choosing from a wide range of free custom colors. We’ve reviewed the slightly larger Forme Cubley 18, and we were very impressed. The Cubley 16 is just a slightly smaller version and equally as good. The SKØG is fitted with a maintenance and oil free belt drive rather than a traditional chain, to keep things easy and clean.

Seat is made by Selle Royal, with Wild Bikes branding, which is not listed in the specification, but is reassuring brand component wise Orbea has borrowed the Steep ‘N’ Deep seat tube concept from its Rallon enduro bike. Jeremie ReuillerI feel very privileged that we’ve got such amazing readers who are taking pictures of, weighing and test riding the bikes – although I do wonder what the staff think is going on!!! How do the Wild Bike’s actually ride? This, blended with the moderate reach and head tube angle, gives an effective top tube length that sits you in a reasonably upright position. This makes for a comfortable bike to pedal – especially welcome an ebike, where you spend most of your pedalling time sitting down.

Then, yesterday Jennifer got in touch. She’d actually taken her Cycle Sprog into her local Go Outdoors and had a sneaky test ride! She told us: Next up Jim got in touch, to say “Just popped in to have a look at these bikes. Unfortunately they had sold the only 20 inch Wild Bike they had, which is the one that I was most interested in. I weighed the 18 at 6.8kg and the 24 at 9.4kg.”The high-spec components worked without a glitch for my two and a bit days of riding. The brakes had enough power, and never made me feel less than 100 per cent controlled, even on steep tech trails. It’s got 16″ wheels and an innovative “growing frame” designed for smaller riders, so you can skip the hassle and the expense of buying two bikes.

TLW: SOME OF THE NEW WILD MODELS COME WITH WHEELS FROM YOUR NEW SISTER BRAND, OQUO. WITH THAT CONNECTION BETWEEN ORBEA AND OQUO, HOW MUCH DO YOU TALK BETWEEN THE TWO COMPANIES TO COME TO A FINAL PRODUCT? The bikes are compatible with 160mm or 170mm-travel forks. The geometry chart below shows the bikes with a 160mm fork. However, I tested a 170mm Fox 38 Factory. It’s one thing looking at the bikes in store, and another actually buying one and riding it properly. Cycle Sprog reader Jon did his research, was impressesd and has bought the Wild 14 – his son is 102cm and the bike fits him at the lowest saddle height. His full impressions of the bike can be read in the comments section below. Here’s a brief summary of what he’s found, having been out with it a few times and being generally impressed with the quality of the bike. We’re very excited to put more trail time in on this full powered Enduro eMTB to really figure out where it shines and where it fails, and to see how the long haul affects its quiet running. We’re also excited to spend more time on the Bosch Race motor, as it definitely has a learning curve that we weren’t quite able to dial in over such a short ride time. The Over Run of power delivery is notable and while it can absolutely be useful, we foresee some crashes and mishaps when the mode is being used in certain types of trail conditions. For that you’ll have to stay tuned for the long-term review, but we’re quite confident to say that this is one of the best all round eMTB’s on the market right now and we can’t wait to put it to task in our 5 th Annual eMTB Shootout, coming soon!

Orbea’s SIC (Sealed Internal Cable) system threads the dropper post and gear cables, plus the rear brake hose, through the headset. Jeremie Reuiller MU: The main goal of the new Wild was to have the same performance on the trail as a Rallon. So, starting from that point, we updated everything on the frame. The frame construction is completely different to tune the frame stiffness, also the bike is much lighter than the previous one. The geometry is similar to the Rallon, and the kinematics have been updated to have a bike that is more poppy and more fun on the trails.

Cheaply made brass bell! (The cheapness is to be expected but the fact that it has the classic ding of brass was a pleasant surprise!). During the development process, Orbea identified a huge area of potential gain in ride quality. By making the battery fully integrated, no massive opening in the frame’s downtube, the new Wild has a much more precise feel on the trail.. Orbea produced a prototype frame to test the theory, and the results were staggering. Cutting the hatch in the downtube for a removable battery decreased the frame stiffness by 70%, with all else remaining the same. Designing the new Wild frame around an integrated battery led to a reduction in mass of 900g, a hair under 2lbs, or (32.5%), while increasing the stiffness in desirable locations by 50% compared to the outgoing Wild. We took the opportunity to sit down with Markel Uriarte, Trail MTB Product Manager for Orbea Bicycles, to learn a little more about what went into its development and seek some answers to concerns ourselves and our readers may have.If you’ve found this post useful and you’d like to support us, then you can buy us a coffee using this link.
