AMOLED FHD screen with a Hole in the Display, thus making your intense-gaming session and movie-watching experience enjoyable and engaging. While we didn't notice any major problems with lag or stuttering, this isn't going to be quite as slick in its swiping and animations as something like the Samsung Galaxy S21. Outside of work, he enjoys long walks in the countryside, skiing down mountains, watching football matches (as long as his team is winning) and keeping up with the latest movies. However, it is interesting to note that this phone comes with a MediaTek Helio G85 SoC compared to its predecessor that had a Snapdragon chipset. The use of AMOLED rather than LCD really adds vibrancy and brightness to the screen, and if you're prepared to ramp the brightness up to the maximum, then colours really pop on this display.

As you can see from the Pixel 6 Pro comparison shot in the gallery above, if phone photography is important to you (especially in low light) then you might want to consider getting a more expensive handset. With decent light, the Moto G31’s camera is perfectly capable of taking some good-quality shots, as the picture of the church above demonstrates. The Moto G31 managed nearly a full day of looped video in our standardised test, and while none of the handsets we’re comparing it to is exactly weak on the stamina front, it’s a clear win for the Moto if battery is most important for you. And, with the 8 MP Ultrawide angle and 8 MP Depth Sensor, you can add more clarity and perspective to everything you shoot. A more expensive phone will have a more premium feel, and you'll also get access to extras that the Moto G31 doesn't offer, such as waterproofing, 5G and wireless charging.

There’s a slight but noticeable delay between pressing the shutter and the camera snapping, which can prove frustrating with timings, and this also makes it pretty easy to get blurry images, too. What they get here is a feature right smartphone with a lovely display, big battery and a compact form factor.

Elsewhere the Moto G31 is available from many third-party retailers as well as direct from Motorola. The camera, while unlikely to win over serious photographers, is also capable of getting good results with a little patience. It could be a little brighter in bright sunlight, but other than that, it's all pretty sharp and exactly what you'd like from this kind of phone.

So it's not the most convenient of devices to top up, but at least with such strong battery life, that isn't something you need to do too often. The Moto G31 seems to be a capable device and apt for people not looking to jump on to the 5G bandwagon, given that 5G services are still some way off.

from corner to corner, with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080, which equates to around 411 pixels per inch – a big advance on the 720p panel in the G30.

The Moto G31 has a front-facing selfie camera housed under a hole-punch cut-out with a USB Type-C charging port and a speaker located at the bottom. Above that are the volume controls and a dedicated Google Assistant button, and there's a headphone jack at the top and a USB-C port at the bottom. It would be nice here as the faster refresh makes using the phone smoother, especially when scrolling and gaming, but it seems Motorola has focused on photography instead. They protrude a little, but not enough to result in any serious wobble when the phone is placed on its back. This phone features a 50 MP Main Camera with Quad Pixel technology so that you can capture clear and vivid pictures under any lighting conditions.
