Together, Ventress and Vos are the best hope for eliminating Dooku--as long as the emerging feelings between them don't compromise their mission. But Ventress is determined to have her retribution and at last let go of her dark Sith past. Balancing the complicated emotions she feels for Vos with the fury of her warrior's spirit, she resolves to claim victory on all fronts--a vow that will be mercilessly tested by her deadly enemy . . . and her own doubt. Next, the Jedi Knights sending Quinlan Vos after him is a hard enough pill to swallow. I'm not sure what the canon Quinlan brings to the table which would allow him to defeat the galaxy's greatest swordmsan after Mace, Yoda, Anakin, and Obi-Wan. What is Quinlan Vos' special ability that makes them think he can take Dooku? It's certainly isn't his gift for psychometry. That doesn't help fight a Form II lightsaber combat master. After receiving his assignment, Vos informs Ventress about his new mission to kill Count Dooku. After some arguing, Vos agrees to allow Ventress to accompany him. At the Jedi Council briefing, the Council agreed to allow Asajj to accompany Vos on his mission after she reveals that Dooku would be traveling to Christophsis on a Separatist dreadnought. Together, Vos and Ventress travel on the Banshee to Christophsis, where they discover Dooku's dreadnought among the Separatist fleet. Meanwhile, Skywalker and Kenobi tail Vos from a captured Separatist shuttle, and manage to infiltrate Dooku's dreadnought. After boarding the dreadnought with the help of reprogrammed battle droids, the two Jedi witness Vos engaging Dooku in a lightsaber duel. His name is Vos, and he has been tasked with gaining the trust of the former sith apprentice Ventress. Together they may have a chance of killing Dooku. But what the council didn’t predict, and what Vos didn’t predict, is how compatible he and Ventress are. They work well together; they belong together. Ventress teaches Vos how to wield the dark side without losing himself to his emotions entirely; she shows him how he can dip in and out of it and wield it as a weapon rather than becoming the embodiment of it. When Ventress and Vos first meet one another, it’s not entirely clear why Ventress agrees to Vos’ plans, although as a sometimes-companion of Boba Fett and company, she is used to allying with questionable people. The prose is unexciting, with some abrupt shifts in tone that don’t entirely work. One mixed metaphor about onion-shaped buildings is particularly contradictory. The novel clearly spells out that Ventress uses her flirtation as a tactic, but there isn’t anything new brought to that idea in the novel. Some scenes are formulaic, serving more as markers to tell readers exactly what genre the book is than to establish anything particular about the characters.

Ironically, the “Water of Life” is anything but, as it sets out a turn of events that ensures Vos’ descent to the dark side, and symbolizes the end of life as he knows it to be. Ventress explains Vos’ task: You will only be in the . . .” Rakshu’s voice trailed off as Nya held her gaze. Tears slipped silently down Rakshu’s muzzle, glittering in the crimson light. The Mahran were no telepaths, but even so, Nya knew her mother could read her thoughts. As do all of us, Master Kenobi,” said Master Mace Windu. “But I don’t think that wish is coming true anytime soon.” Ventress ultimately teaches Vos many things, including how to harness the power of the dark side; a line that is most dangerous to cross. Veteran SW writer Christie Golden has produced one of the better new Star Wars novels coming out of the Canon list of titles. Using some of the coolest and most interesting characters of the vast Star Wars universe, namely Asajj Ventris, Quinlan Vos, Count Dooku and Obi Wan Kenobi Golden has the Force with her to put together a great story. Following the meeting, Vos travels down to Coruscant's level 1313 to inquire about Ventress's whereabouts. At a seedy bar, the undercover Jedi meets several bounty hunters who are acquainted with Ventress, including the Trandoshan Bossk, and the late Jango Fett's son Boba Fett. Fett reveals that Ventress took a job on the planet Pantora, chasing down a Volpai fugitive named Moregi. Using this information, Vos travels to Pantora, where he stumbles upon Ventress' hunt. Due to Quinlan's arrival, Moregi managed to escape. After a tense reunion, Vos and Ventress joined forces to capture Moregi.

Based on unproduced episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, thisthrillingnovel features Asajj Ventress, former Sith apprentice turned bounty hunter and one of the great antiheroes in the Star Wars galaxy. Taking You with Me: The Mahran have a stinger that contains a poison guaranteed to kill its target. However, the act of simply unsheathing the stinger reduces the Mahran's life expectancy to mere minutes, as the poison it contains will also be released into the Mahran's bloodstream and travel to their heart. Canon Immigrant: Among other things, the Faleen ability to project pheromones, and the B3 Ultra Battle Droid (which is briefly mentioned, but not shown). Nya’s fur lifted. She whirled, snarling silently. Oh, she knew that voice. The Mahran had heard it uttering all sorts of pretty lies and promises that were never intended to be kept. She wondered if there was anyone left in the galaxy who didn’t recognize the silky tones of Count Dooku.Bait the Dog: Dooku initially expresses sympathy and gently tells Vos of Ventress’s ‘true nature’ but this all turns into an attempt to break Vos when he makes him relive his late master’s death. The only way to bring down the Sith's most dangerous warrior may be to join forces with the dark side. Psychometry: Vos is one of the very few Jedi with this Force ability, which makes him a natural choice for dangerous undercover assignments, investigations, and assassinations. Let's go with the fact the majority of the book is a romance, or an attempt to do a romance. The portrayal of the book is Ventress is a skilled seductress and femme fatale who Vos finds captivating. Well, I guess some people would find Ventress appealing. She's certainly a dominant female and Dark Side ladies have their appeal but mostly I've always found her a really nasty character with a smoker's voice. Nope. It is good Star Wars fun from cover to cover. Sure, I have personal dislikes about certain things that occur in the novel, but I always suspend my disbelief when reading Star Wars and try to enjoy the pure sugar-coated fun of it all.
