Just when you think she is out of the woods she gets herself into more trouble - a bounty hunter who doesn't want to shoot people so won't take a gun and sometimes ends up on the wrong end of one! Stephanie asks around her building for anyone who might be able to decode the message and is sent to the nephew of one of the tenants, a man who is supposed to be really good with puzzles. It is probably best to start the series with this, or a later book, where you have the pleasure of meeting the many memorable characters that surround Stephanie - then read the rest from the beginning. I could not stop laughing at the crazy jams Stephanie continually got herself in, which is now her signature style. He was featured in the beginning of the series, and it adds more of an element of suspense in this go-around. Then there's Sally Sweet, a 6'4" heterosexual transvestite in a all girl revue band who runs around on his time off clothed in drag sporting a scruffy beard and no makeup. In fright, she takes her hamster, Rex, and goes to stay with Morelli at his house, and she and Morelli finally resume their intimate relationship. There's swearing and sex and mayhem and silliness in these books that a good person and intelligent reader would despise, but my voracious appetite for the written word, irreverence and black humour mean that I can't resist reading them, and enjoying the process, even if there's a nagging voice in the background telling me to get back to the more worthy 1001 list. Despite being odd, Sally is very good at codes and he deciphers Maxine's code in a matter of minutes.

Sugar is secretly in love with Sally, and misreads the relationship between Sally and Stephanie as something problematic. I find it kind of cool that their "relationship" has progressed at a slow burn throughout the series thus far. What ensues is the usual chaotic behaviour and riotous antics we have come to expect from Steph when she’s hot on a case.

Some of it is dumb luck and some of it using her bounty hunter skills (sort of) to locate her current bail jumper. As was true in earlier studies, the distribution of the eye and motor components of the FOUR score was comparable to their distribution in the GCS score. Maxine was planning to leave the country with her mother and Margie when Stephanie caught up with her.
