Description

DCI Lesley Clarke is settling into her new job in Dorset's Major Crimes Unit, and becoming accustomed to a slower pace of life. Having been seriously injured by a bomb in Birmingham, DCI Lesuses Clarke had the choice of retiring or moving to a quieter patch.

However, in certain instances, occasional blurriness, missing segments, or faint black spots might persist. Starting off with the escape of a prisoner from Portland prison, who is then subsequently ambushed and murdered. The Village series is a post-apocalyptic psychological thriller trilogy focusing on a family whose past catches up with them.In a bizarre twist DS Dennis Frampton has been arrested for the murder of his former boss DCI Mackie, even though his death was treated as suicide for nearly two years. Other stories include the famous Rattenbury murder at 5 Manor Road in the East Cliff area of Bournemouth, a catalogue of murders perpetrated by Neville Heath whose last victim was found along Branksome Chine, the hair-fetish murders of Danilo Restivo and the case of arsenic poisoning in a cup of Oxo in Over Compton. The characters are mainly likeable in the whole, although I actually prefer the secondary characters to Lesley - she can come across as rude and a big city know it all, whereas the rest of the team are much more likeable. Lesley and the team must juggle two cases, office politics and PR problems in book 5 of the bestselling Dorset Crime series. In fact, she always found jobs where she had to do anything to do with putting together training documents, briefing notes and press releases among other writings.

Another witness thought they saw someone hurrying from Mrs Green’s house into Berryman’s house on the night of the murder. He was serving time for his many crimes (having been arrested by Leslie's old Team in Birmingham) but, following a prison escape his body was found draped over the top of the antique light in a Lighthouse near the prison. Lesley Clarke, the detective crime investigator, is in charge of the investigations alongside Johnny Chiles and detective sergeant Dennis. It's one to puzzle over, with so many clues and red herrings to wade through, it'll really get you thinking and challenge your prejudices.

They are really easy reads with interesting characters and fantastic storylines with all the usual twists and turns that make a good crime novel. The mystery of the Coverdale Kennels at Tarrant Keynston, where not one, but two kennel managers died in suspicious circumstances, remains unsolved to this day. This summary only scratches the surface of an exceptionally detailed set of records which contain an unusually large number of witness statements and information, providing various ‘subplots’, differing angles on the case, character assessments of the witnesses, accused and their families, indications as to what happened to the murder weapon and allusions to corruption and plotting among some of Poole’s elite. Although it has been done to give each their own characteristics, as I come from a more rural than urban environment I thought it portrayed the locals as having a more insular outlook than the urban characters.

The former special forces officer is heading to Europe, to go face to face with some of Putin's most killer henchmen!
